Battlefield 6 Weapon Progression Is Hurting the Game

Battlefield 6’s weapon progression needs a major fix because it’s too grindy, inconsistent across weapon classes, and hurts match balance. The gap between base guns and fully upgraded weapons is too big—essential attachments like recoil control, optics, and ammo options can completely change performance, leaving new players or anyone leveling a fresh weapon at a huge disadvantage. Progression also lacks clear tracking, so players aren’t always sure what actions are counting (kills, assists, objective score, suppressions, revives, squad play) or how close they are to the next unlock. A better system would reward skill and teamwork as much as kills, reduce repetitive “farm” playstyles, improve milestone clarity, and add catch-up options like starter attachments, low-level weapon XP boosts, or challenges that encourage variety so experimenting stays fun and competitive.

  • My experience is that I'll have a 4X scope and be awarded a 1.5X scope.  There's no rhyme or reason to it . . .

As for the progressing, you literally earn points - all kinds of points - while holding the gun in your hands. Even if you capture the flag, the score you earn goes into the gun's experience. There are no "special" actions you need to perform to unlock some parts.

You sure? What makes you say that?
I’ve been hearing that only kills count and literally nothing else.

  • they told it was going to be improved but what they did is change the engineer icon lol. dice just want to sell xp boosts. greedy af

Do you have any information about weapon progression? I couldn't find any sources that had actually tested it. Only a youtube video in the last two weeks that stated that it is primarily kills (and things related to kills e.g. assits, suppression, br second down) that would grant you weapon xp. Here's my understanding at the moment:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LPrJsvS3Gw

Just curious, since someone else had also asked me but I couldn't give them a definitive answer.

It's definitely too grindy. I have quite a bit of guns at 50 already, but getting there was not the most enjoyable journey. As for disadvantage/advantage, I think player skill levels tend to be the greater differentiator in who wins. I do agree on the need to reward players for teamwork though.

  • Too grindy - maybe. With my level of skill, it took me about 60 hours to reach lvl 40 for the first weapons of every class (admittedly, I just play and do not grind for XP). The gap - no, I wouldn't say so. The upgrades you get for reaching lvl 5-8 for a gun are the best in my opinion, and after them, I rarely change anything.
