Dice's approach to lower-skilled players puts me in mind of when I first tried to play BF1 back in 2016. I had no idea how to play, and because of that I just got killed 40 times every match without learning anything at all. I was a bit better by the time BFV was released, but when I found out that BF2042 would finally have a CoD style player vs AI mode I was so happy, because I enjoy the idea of Battlefield but was fed up with having to deal with the kinds of players who have enough time (and, most likely, money, given the cost of decent gaming equipment) to 'get gud' dominating every single game. Imagine wanting to learn how to play pool and every single person at the pool hall is a pro player who has no time at all for 'noobs' and will only occasionally play against a new guy so that the pro can feel like a superstar. Until BF2042, that was the BF experience.
Now, so-called 'casual breakthrough' mode feels like nothing more than a half-arsed approach to a problem that could easily be fixed by simply adding the vs AI mode from the last (supposedly worse!) game. Also, who cares how a player levelled up their weapons and xp? They know if they did it against humans or the AI, so why should it matter?
It feels as if Dice are so obsessed with keeping their long-term hardcore fanbase happy that they've left the rest of us out in the sun. There's no way for new players to get used to the game, but that's ok because SkwibbleWibbleArse234 is spending 10 hours a day playing Conquest, right fellas?
