Devs: Customisable/ adjustable attachments

Hi,

I think an opportunity has been missed regarding the weapon attachments.

I say "missed" because I think there would be far too much work involved in implementing adjustability of weapon attachments, with us being so close to release.

I briefly tried Delta Force (while we were all climbing the walls waiting for BF6 to arrive!). I won't talk too much about DF as this a BF forum.

DF was nothing amazing to me. For a free to play game, it's a lot of game. But it was forgettable and I have since deleted it.

However, one thing I was blown away by with DF was the level of adjustment/ customisation available for the weapon attachments. I've (personally) never seen anything like it in any other game.

in DF, after choosing and fitting attachments to your weapon, I was amazed to find that you could then adjust them! Grips, scopes, stocks etc could all be adjusted.

Grips can be moved forwards or backwards, offering improved weapon behaviour. Not just selecting "front" or "back", but you could literally move the grip along the lower rail incrementally.

Scopes could be moved forwards or backwards in the same way, offering adjustment to eye relief.

Stocks could be shortened or lengthened to adjust weapon handling.

I found this truly impressive. So not only do the attachments themselves effect weapon behaviour, but they could then be further tweaked.

It's a shame that Dice didn't pursue this with BF6.

Can this be added in the future? I'm doubtful.

I imagine it would require far too much work to code in all the additional values that come with all the degrees of adjustment that would be available with the attachments.

Just thought I'd mention this as I really do think it was a missed opportunity.

  • It's mostly pointless. It's creating choices for the sake of there being choices. It doesn't ensure that each choice is actually meaningful or intuitive. How would people know whether moving your grip 5 inch forward is going to help or hinder them? That 0.2% recoil control per inch probably isn't noticeable anyways.

    Disagree.

You could say that about the changes in attachment stats right now.

How do you know that the stubby grip really IS giving you an edge over the angled grip?

You don’t. But the stats are there and we should assume that the behaviour of the atrachments have been factored in by dice and do actually change the behaviour of your weapon.

Also, in DF, you can see the impact the attachment adjustments have on the weapon in real time as you adjust it.

But if you go with your logic (that nothing impacts the weapon or gameplay) then I guess we should all just not bother with any attachments and just run a naked weapon, right?

  • That system is neat but it's just lifting CoD's "weapon tuning" system pretty much 1:1. Certainly a neat feature but I think there's a point where its just overly granular without much meaningful depth. Like yeah it's cool and maybe some weapons can benefit from a bit better ADS speed or recoil control, but then you start having more balance questions to consider, and ultimately everyone is just going to go for what is seen as meta and best in class.

BF6's beta had pretty clear stat modifiers in the UI for each attachment and yeah when using em it did indeed have noticeable impacts on weapon handling and performance.

Also again the system DF uses is quite literally an amalgamation of both Tarkov for the overall modification, and Call of Duty for the tuning system. What they have on offer there is nothing particularly new or unique and if anything we should be looking at the games they lifted.

And yet again, the system BF6 has shown us is more than perfectly fine. It's clear what changes, the options are plentiful, and the points system means you can't just throw on only the best stuff and have a brokenly potent weapon.

That would depend on whether the game provides you with the actual statistics and not some abstract list of imprecise pro's and cons. Other than that it's just a matter of having a good technical knowledge of how these statistics affect gun behavior.

But if you go with your logic (that nothing impacts the weapon or gameplay)

This is not my logic. What I'm saying here is that I'd prefer to have a decent number of impactful choices, instead of an overwhelming number of granular choices.
