My understanding is that they are going to nuke the specific xp farming servers.

I think solo/coop is the answer, but with everything unlocked and its own rank system, no stress about unlocking anything, just a fun sandbox and it gives actual online stats and progression their integrity back.

I'm fully OK with the solo/co-op mode ala 2042. And honestly I don't have any issue with getting some of the unlocks (like in 2042) or progressing weekly/daily challenges there. But higher level challenges maybe should be set just for actual multiplayer. I will say though, that it should be a fluid situation, as with 2042 there are people that buy the game and then their region is entirely dead. Meaning that they can't play and progress even against bots if that is hard-limited.

You make total sense. I really hope the Portal can be freed from XP farming dominance, so all players can enjoy the fun of both solo/coop and Portal.

People complain about not having time to unlock stuff online, so give them everything in a contained space where it does not impact online progression.

It already is impacting online progression, they have given in to instant gratification and made unlocks silly quick so they can consume it and then jump to the next game leaving players who stick around with a hollow progression system.
