Feedback on Character Customization
Dear DICE Team,
Firstly, I want to say that I absolutely love the game. Having already put over 100 hours into it, I think the decision to return to a more grounded Battlefield experience — without unnecessary gimmicks — was the right call.
That said, one thing I don’t fully understand is why we can’t customize our characters. The unit bios are interesting, but the fixed character bios feel unnecessary. I’d love the ability to select a character model from a unit and then choose their color scheme and gender. It would help players feel more personally connected to their in-game persona.
For many of us, games are a way to escape reality and truly immerse ourselves in the experience — so being locked into preset characters can take away from that. I want to be able to play as myself in Battlefield, not as a predefined character.
To be clear, I have no issue with women in the game — I’ve served alongside women in real life, and I have immense respect for them. The issue is that some of the coolest skins are locked behind female characters, which can be immersion-breaking for players who want to represent themselves. I imagine some women players might feel the same way in reverse.
I know this isn’t the highest-priority feature, but I hope that future updates will bring more robust customization options — something closer to the “classic” Battlefield feel, where players are the soldiers, not characters with set identities.
Sincerely,
A Battlefield Enjoyer
