Hi and quick observation

My name is Troy Lawson. I’m 64 and suck at video games of every sort. I’m a USNaval, Gulf War, Cold War, Camp Lejeune, SAM, Naval Reserve, 0000-8404, Veteran. I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA for over a year, and had orders to NavHosp Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for over two years. I was Honorably discharged.

I know there are a few differences between warfare between then and now, and what appears in video games. I also know there are differences between the six uniformed, armed services. So just to get a few things out of the way. What I see on the screen are Army types. They are carrying M14, and they have full beard growth. This means that for the previous two to four weeks, at some time they must have been in garrison, and had maybe one or two inspections.  

I’ve been trained to shave each day for several reasons. The main reason was to form a good seal while donning your M14. Now I see this Army guy in a full beard growth as well as in movies and tv shows. My big question would be is this the reality in today’s Army and any other service? Or is this just a Hollywood-Seattle fantasy? Is this to make Army guys more badass than the late Chuck Norris? Does anyone else notice this? Please chime in good, bad, or indifferent. I know I’ll get shot down in flames, but that doesn’t matter. Thanks for your input! To the Corps, Ooh Rah!!!
