Idea: Remove Auto Red Markers – Make Marks Line-of-Sight & Team-Based
I think Battlefield would play better if we removed the constant red markers above enemies’ heads unless they are manually marked by a player. Here’s how it would work. Manual marks only — no automatic red markers unless a player presses the spot or mark button. Line-of-sight requirement — a mark stays only while the person who marked them still has eyes on the target. Fade on lost sight — if the spotter loses line of sight, the mark disappears after 2 to 3 seconds (this timing can be adjusted during balancing). Team support — if another teammate also manually marks the same enemy and still has line of sight, the mark stays visible. Additional notes: Recon gadgets like drones, spotting scopes, and motion sensors could extend or override the line-of-sight requirement, keeping spotting useful and rewarding for recon classes. The fade time after losing sight can be tuned based on gameplay feedback to find the right balance between tension and usability. This system allows casual players to still benefit from spotting, but encourages squads to communicate and coordinate for maximum effectiveness, so it is not punishing for solo players. Why this works: Encourages actual teamwork and communication to track enemies. Forces players to find where shots are coming from instead of relying on constant markers. Brings back the tension of scanning for enemies like older Battlefield titles. Gives players a fair chance to flank, ambush, and surprise without being permanently tracked. This system would make spotting a skill and a team effort again, while still keeping it useful when squads work together. What do you think?
