Let's Talk Squad Mechanics and Info
I feel that there are some shortcomings with how squad dynamics are treated in BF 6. There were some lessons learned from earlier iterations of the franchise which didn't make their way over, and I wanted to ask for their implementation here.
Squad Lead Assignments
For starters, squad member 1 should always be squad lead. Having a different number be the squad lead every time can be confusing when I might be looking for markers from #1.
I quite liked the squad lead assignments in Battlefield 2042. Having the game ask someone to issue a command to keep command is a really good way to encourage squad engagement from the leader, or to find one who will. Making this work with the tactical suggestions could make this iteration of squad lead assignments work really well:
- Keep tactical assignments as the default
- Give squad lead to the first person to either accept that or designate a point to defend or attack
- Keep the same timing of deferring squad lead to another person in the event the squad leader isn't placing orders on the regular.
This should encourage more squadplay inherently. It won't solve most of the problems, but it should solve some.
Squad Information in Vehicles
One of the more important bits of info I look for, is what my squad member's names are when we're riding together. I want to know who is gunner, who is driving, etc. Right now, that information is completely missing from the HUD.
Bringing that back will help me call out names of people when I am typing or in voice. Even when I am in a Discord call with buddies, we're not having to play a guessing game of who is in which seat, in the event we grab two tanks, for example.
