Portal Feature Requests/Feedback!

I have some really cool ideas for portal experiences but there are a number of absolutely necessary features that we need.

1: Ability to change squad sizes. The ability to configure squad sizes of a match is key as i have a lot of cool experiences in mind that would only work with more than 4 players think 8 player squads here.

2: Custom objective capture rules, and, locations. and moving objectives? For this one being able to create custom "capture" conditions. Lets say you have to get 100 kills at an objective to capture that objective, or lets say you have to kill certain high priority targets to consider an objective captured.

3: Objective locking, ability to consider custom objectives locked/destroyed/exhausted and force players to  move onto other points (more than just capture/mcom in this situation an objective could be any kind of gameplay task/graph of tasks to complete over the course of a match) .

3: Persistent portal experiences, we need some kind of persistent data store to store data for players across multiple sessions. Lets say we want to create some kind of extraction shooter type experience or something that has a perma-death character style gameplay with custom skill tree's or unlocks over time having some type of backing store for this player data is absolutely necessary.

4: Custom ai control of vehicles and aircraft. lets say you want to produce an experience which can call in airstrikes from aircraft, or pull in a NPC tank for assistance being able to control assets like this on the map would be extremely useful.

5: Ability to spawn players in certain states such as immediately spawn players in a para-shooting from an aircraft, or set custom fixed spawn points on the map that are entirely different from any objective based gameplay.

Finally the ability to write real scripting code to create these experiences instead of a dumbed down web system. Even if this code is required to be written in a web browser or special tool this is far better than a visual editor. I know TONS of people that are interested in something like this but refused to touch portal in 2042 because the visual scripting really put people off from doing anything remotely interesting with it(in addition to the extreme limitations the old portal system imposed)

  • Agree with the scripting point, would much prefer writing text over having to wrestle with nodes.

Another feature that could be awesome would be a Empty/Flat map, although we don't know what memory constraints we will have with the spatial editor, I would hope that we can opt for an empty map which would increase that memory limit.

  • Good thread.

I spent 99% of my 2500hrs in 2042 tinkering and playing in portal.

It would definitely be great to see portal evolve with more features we can use.

I am confident that DICE will be working to develop portal as we go further and it is awesome to see portal being embraced, rather than being abandoned. Portal is single handedly the best thing DICE has brought to Battlefield as it provides so much more depth and possibilities to the game, which also serves to provide years of additional playability.

One thing that I am anxious about, is whether we will have all of the settings and options available from 2042.

Towards the end of 2042's cycle, we had a situation where more things were finally added to portal: ability to adjust damage values of each weapon type, the ability to add/ remove/ resize HUD elements, more code blocks added to the Editor etc.

I really hope they have taken a more "pick up where we left off" approach with portal in BF6, and not a "start from scratch" approach.

The spatial editor looks awesome, looking like a full editing tool.

While I do not expect DICE to provide us all with comprehensive tutorials on how to use it, I do hope that it is intuitive enough for common folk to make sense of.

I am hoping that we will have the usual basic adjustments/ settings/ options from the server creator, as well as the ability to use code blocks to add some simple codes if we want to (some of us finally got the hang of it and it would be great to see it still available in BF6) and then have the spatial editor to experiment with later on.

I wait with anticipation and excitement..
