Season 4 netcode, desync & high-ping compensation are ruining the experience
Ever since Season 4 launched, playing the game has gotten significantly harder for me. I used to struggle to maintain an average K/D between 1.0 and 2.0 due to inconsistent netcode and desync, but now it’s gotten so bad that in 18 out of the last 22 matches I played, my K/D dropped below 1.0.
I really don’t mind having a bad round every now and then, but it’s deeply frustrating when you constantly feel that none of your shots are landing, while you get instantly deleted from the other end. It doesn’t even matter who is shooting at me or what weapon they’re using; every bullet seems to hit simultaneously in a single frame ("super bullets").
Meanwhile, even when I'm using a high-damage weapon (35 damage) at point-blank range, I often need more than 10 hits to get a kill, only for the enemy to snap around and instantly drop me in one frame.
Yet out of nowhere, there are occasional matches that feel completely normal. In those rare rounds, my shots actually register, the TTK/TTD feels right, and I actually have a split second to react or take cover. In those games, I easily pull a K/D well above 2.0. I start winning 1v1 gunfights again, and the number of hits required actually matches the enemy’s death animation.
I always keep a close eye on the scoreboard pings. In those good rounds, everyone in the lobby seems to have a low, stable latency without any crazy spikes above 100ms.
Yesterday, however, was another struggle. There was one enemy who consistently sat at a 250+ ping for the entire match, yet managed to go 27/11. Something like that simply shouldn't be possible. If your ping is that high, you shouldn't even be allowed on that server. And if you do play, a fast-paced shooter should never reward you with a huge advantage due to lag compensation.
I genuinely don't understand why high-ping players are being compensated like this. This issue has plagued multiple Battlefield titles, and it’s ridiculous. High ping? You should bear the disadvantage, simple as that. In fact, servers should enforce a ping limit of around 75ms. Put high-ping players together in their own dedicated lobbies instead of mixing them in with people who have low-latency connections.
Then there’s the console issue. Beyond hardware like Cronus giving people an unfair edge, the aim assist strength on console is just absurdly strong right now. In a normal environment, the vast majority of console players shouldn't consistently beat PC players, with the exception of the rare top-tier controller talents. But with the combination of strong aim-lock, desync, and super bullets, controller aim assist gives them a massive advantage that ruins the fun, even when they aren't technically cheating. It’s no coincidence that instant deaths and suspicious high scores seem to come from console players far more often.
I would love nothing more than an option to completely disable crossplay with consoles and play exclusively against other PC players.
Why is no one listening? Why isn't this being addressed, and why is player feedback on these core issues being ignored? Why do developers dodge these topics while continuing to push out new content? Is it because 90% of the casual player base has no idea how broken the game is on a technical level? Or is it because it mostly affects players with top-tier hardware and low-latency connections? How on earth are you put at a disadvantage for using high-end gear and a flawless connection?
