Hello friend!
Penguin can agree to a big degree, considering the general engagement distances on most maps are very short for sniper rifles across a majority of encounters during maps in Battlefield 6.
Penguin says some parts of this will be a reply to your thread friend, but not 100%, your thread is also giving Penguin the opportunity to share some thoughts as well friend! 😀
1:Penguin believes the upcoming Tsuru Reef map can be one of the few maps where longer range shots are actually possible, that being just one part of the formula.
2: To Penguin, the Sweet Spot mechanics has always felt a bit counterintuitive. The reduced/lowered sweet spot distance makes a long range playstyle more challenging, since you're almost entirely dependent on landing clean headshots outside of these ranges.
What has always been interesting to Penguin is the function of the Sweet-spot mechanic itself.
In reality or at least in ideal physics, a bullet fired at close range still has the highest velocity and thus the greatest kinetic energy. As it travels through the air, drag being a constant resistance and friction slowing bullets down, reducing energy over distance.
KE=1/2Mv^2
M = mass
V = Velocity
Penguin says this basically means a bullet cannot naturally become more powerful after having travelled farther.
Yet the Sweet Spot mechanics does exactly that, it artificially increases the damage within a specific distance, even though the bullet has already lost velocity and energy.
Another point Penguin finds counterintuitive is that the general long distances in Battlefield 6 is normally at most roughly maximum 100-200 meters depending on map selection, which is relative short for any modern sniper rifle. In reality, the difference in ballistic performance over such distances is very minimal, which makes having such significant changes in damage within that small range feel artificial.
3: From Penguins perspective, it makes the Sweet Spot mechanic feel more like a gameplay rule than something that reflects how sniper rifles actually perform. This is also why Penguin very rarely play as a sniper in Battlefield 6 with Sniper Rifles
Penguin knows and understand this was introduced as a gameplay balance mechanic, but from a physics perspective the whole concept itself feel very backwards, which is why Penguin has always found it somewhat counterintuitive.
Big Fan Of Battlefield!
Many Thanks
