Strong Feedback from a Battlefield Veteran

I have been playing Battlefield since Battlefield 1942 on PC.

Over the years I played Battlefield 2, Bad Company, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1, Battlefield V and even Battlefield 2042. I’ve been part of this franchise for more than two decades.

And honestly, this is the first time I feel the series has completely lost its identity.

Network issues make the game unplayable

On official servers the game is almost unplayable for me. My character constantly gets pulled back to previous positions, slides across the map, or desyncs from the server as if the server is constantly correcting my position.

This completely destroys the core gameplay.

And before someone says “check your connection”:

I already did.

I spent hours trying to fix this problem:

researched online solutions

watched troubleshooting videos

changed graphics settings

analyzed performance metrics

tested multiple servers

adjusted network settings

played against AI matches to isolate the issue

I genuinely tried everything possible to make the game playable.

Nothing solved it.

The UI feels like a Call of Duty clone

One of the biggest disappointments is the menu design and user interface.

Battlefield used to have a clear identity. Now the menus feel like a copy of Call of Duty's interface, filled with confusing layers, unnecessary screens, and cluttered navigation.

Battlefield used to lead its own design direction. Now it feels like it’s chasing trends instead.

Weak and uninspired campaign

The campaign feels rushed and uninspired. It lacks the care and depth that previous Battlefield titles had.

It honestly feels like something that was added just to check a marketing requirement.

Visual downgrade and reduced destruction

I also noticed what feels like a visual downgrade in certain areas compared to Battlefield 4.

Environmental destruction — one of Battlefield’s defining features — feels reduced. Effects look simplified and the world feels less reactive than older games in the franchise.

That’s a huge step backwards.

Shader compilation that solves nothing

The game spends a long time compiling shaders during loading, supposedly to prevent stuttering later.

But after waiting for the shaders to compile… the game still stutters.

So what exactly is the point?

Players are forced to sit through long loading times for a system that doesn’t even solve the problem it was supposed to fix.

Community servers are a disaster

Community servers are also in a terrible state.

Most of them exist only for XP farming with absurd settings like:

extremely high player health

vehicles removed

completely altered gameplay rules

Finding servers with actual Battlefield gameplay settings is surprisingly rare.

Instead of creative communities, we have XP farms everywhere.

Battlefield lost what made it Battlefield

Battlefield used to stand out because of:

large scale warfare

combined arms gameplay

dynamic destruction

infantry and vehicle balance

Now it feels like the franchise is trying to imitate other shooters instead of building on what made Battlefield special.

For someone who has been playing since Battlefield 1942, that is incredibly disappointing.

I really wanted to enjoy this game.

I tried to troubleshoot it.

I tried to give it a fair chance.

But right now, it feels like the series has lost its direction.

It has lost its way years ago brother.

I had more fun gaming decades ago on dialup internet playing Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor Spearhead with the {FBI} Clan.

Simple mechanics. No unlocks or player levels. No attachment unlocks. It was all about skill and map knowledge working with your clan.

We had the game files and if things were broken. We fixed them ourselves. Created our own maps and mods. We controlled the behavior on our servers. We banned players ourselves.

Our clans leaders had the servers in their own homes.

Majority of what you listed couldve been fixed by the players themselves back in the day. But not today we are under the corporate curtain telling us how to play their game, their way. Whether its broken or if we agree with it or not.

They are about the $$ now not about the players entertainment or if their game even works. They are about the $$.

Those were the best days of online gaming.

And those days are gone sadly.
