swearing - trash talk. easy bans.
I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the way swearing, teasing, and trash talk are handled in Battlefield nowadays.
I have been playing Battlefield since the days of Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. Back then, gaming culture was much rougher and more straightforward. At the same time, television shows such as X-Factor and other programs regularly featured people being publicly embarrassed or made fun of. That kind of humor and teasing was much more normal in society and, of course, within games as well.
Battlefield 2 was very much part of that culture. Players would tease each other, make fun of one another, and sometimes take things pretty far — occasionally even to the point of being brutally blunt. But that rivalry, humor, and trash talk were also part of what made multiplayer fun for many players. Of course, there are limits. Threats, discrimination, and targeted harassment are completely different matters and, in my opinion, should absolutely be dealt with.
What I find problematic is that nowadays everything seems to be treated under the same umbrella. A harsh joke, a swear word out of frustration, or some old-fashioned trash talk can apparently result in a warning or even a ban. Sometimes it feels as if there is no longer any tolerance for rough humor and that the most sensitive possible interpretation of someone's words is automatically being applied.
We live in a time where people can sometimes feel offended by even the smallest criticism or bit of teasing. I don't think an online game like Battlefield should completely follow that trend. There is a clear difference between genuinely harassing or threatening someone and players simply challenging each other, joking around, or talking trash during a competitive match.
I would therefore ask DICE to take another critical look at its ban policy. Not every insult or swear word deserves the same punishment automatically. Context, intent, repetition, and the severity of what was said should play a much bigger role.
Battlefield has always had a certain rawness and competitive spirit. Please allow room for that to remain. Not everyone who makes a harsh joke or loses their temper during a match is automatically a problem player. Sometimes it is simply part of the culture and the fun of online gaming.
I hope DICE can implement a policy that genuinely distinguishes between serious violations and old-fashioned trash talk. A little resilience should be expected from both players and the systems responsible for moderating the community. The world is so woke, it's boring.
