If I have to hold freelook, I'm not doing anything else because it's incredibly difficult to hold a button WHILE looking around AND flying a vehicle - just make it a toggle, I can look around while flying, press the button again to center myself and continue. Maybe I just need to get used to it, but there are no good buttons for me to hold while freelooking that leave the rest of my fingers free to fly the vehicle.
