Using Mortar as the Attacking team on the new map Contaminated (Breakthrough).

Hi,

 

I’ve noticed an issue with using the Mortar when playing as the attacking team (NATO) on Contaminated in Breakthrough.

 

At the start of the round, it’s almost impossible to use the Mortar because the attacking spawn area is mostly restricted by out-of-bounds. There is no safe or viable location to deploy the Mortar within the spawn.

 

If you move out of the spawn to find a valid spot, you are already very close to the first objective. At that point, you have no cover and are easily exposed to the defending team (Pax Armata), who can reach or spot you very quickly. This usually results in being killed almost immediately, making the Mortar effectively unusable.

 

I’ve attached a screenshot of the map at round start, which clearly shows that there is no reasonable space for attacking players to use the Mortar.

 

Suggestion:

Consider maybe making the mortar usable in the first attacking spawn area, adjusting out-of-bounds limits, or adding covered positions where the attacking team can realistically deploy the Mortar early in the round, and not be killed within 5 seconds.

    One more thing, this kinda applies to all the sectors. You need to be really close to the objectives to use the mortar. The "Out of Bounds" is making it really hard for the attacking team to use the mortar.

    This is the case for every breakthorugh map as attacker. Basically it is just a free way of farming people with mortar as a defender since the zone is designed in a way where you can't put it down to headquarter. Mortar is just so broken it is insane that it is not nerfed yet. It should not have unlimited ammo. It should not recharge ammo while you are actively shooting from it but drop a pack next to you. 

    If you are sitting inside the mortar you should not be able to see any enemy spotted on the map ever specially if you are like 300 meter behind the frontline. Some of the things mortar must change but oh well... nobody realises these.

    Yes, very true. It would be best if they fixed the "out of bounds" thing, and also nerf it, for example limited ammo.

    Mortars need a rework.  The problem you're bringing up has always existed on practically every breakthrough or escalation map.

    Mortars need a harder counter, or honestly they shouldn't be able to be spammed.  The glitch with dropping ammo next to you while using the mortar to make it shoot faster still exists, which is another problem.  

    The worst part is they feel like trash to use 90% of the time, and it's just kinda of a "hehe funni" kind of weapon.  A goof nerf in places could justify a buff in other places, such as limited ammo but the stupid thing actually hits where you aim, and maybe could do some damage against tanks or had some bunker busting ability so they could deal with campers... all sorts of possibilities.

    tomobatyo​ What are you talking about? Mortars are **bleep**. You cant see anyone or anothing using them. Theyre boring and not fun to use. The devs forget the fun part, a common occurence in this dev team.

  • LOL. Its been like this for ages and they still have the problem. Its becasue the maps are tiny. Mortars are depressing in this game. WOuldnt use them, and theyre not fun, as a game is supposed to be.
