Battlefield 6 Crashes to Desktop – FSR2 Breakpoint Assert
Battlefield 6 consistently crashes to desktop regardless of game state. There is no error message, no DXGI/driver notification — the game just exits. This occurs regardless of graphics settings (DLSS off, FSR off, TAA on).
Crash Analysis:
WinDbg analysis of the minidump reveals the crash is an intentional breakpoint (0x80000003) inside Frostbite’s FSR2 reactive mask code:
ExceptionCode: 0x80000003 (Breakpoint)
Faulting function: bf6!ffxFsr2ResourceIsNull
Call stack includes: ffxFsr2ContextGenerateReactiveMask
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: BREAKPOINT_80000003_bf6.exe!Unknown
FAILURE_ID_HASH: {fa184f48-219c-46c9-586e-2c0eb30c6f59}
This indicates the engine attempts to access a GPU resource that is unexpectedly NULL, triggering a developer assert in a shipping build.
Key Points:
- Occurs even when FSR is disabled
- Not caused by DLSS, TAA, GPU drivers, overlays, or Windows
- Crash is identical across multiple minidumps
System Information:
OS: Windows 10 x64 (19041)
GPU: EVGA 4080 Super with the latest driver
Minidump files available for review.
Notes:
This appears to be a Frostbite engine bug where FSR2 code executes during gameplay initialization regardless of user settings. The shipping assert should not be present in retail builds.
