BF6 Crash on Launch Freezes PC requiring Hard Reboot
Description
When launching Battlefield 6 from Steam, the game frequently fails to start properly. Instead of reaching the splash screen, a small black window briefly appears, followed by a USB connect/disconnect sound. Immediately after this, the entire screen freezes and becomes unresponsive.
"I purchased Battlefield 6 at full price, and currently I am unable to play the game at all due to this issue. Considering the cost of the title, it is extremely frustrating that I cannot launch or enjoy the product I paid for. At this point, I have spent more time troubleshooting than actually playing"
During the freeze:
System continues running in the background (e.g., audio/video continues to play)
Keyboard/mouse input is ignored
System cannot be recovered without rebooting
A hard reboot is required to regain control. The issue repeats on each launch attempt. After 10–15 attempts, the game may eventually launch successfully.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken
The following actions were tried with no improvement:
- Reinstalled/Repaired EA Anti-Cheat
- Terminated third-party anti-cheat services (e.g., Vanguard, etc.)
- Set BF6 executable to compatibility mode
- Set BF6 to run as administrator
- Updated BIOS firmware
- Updated NVIDIA GPU drivers to latest version
- Disabled/modified integrated graphics to force use of RTX 4060
- Added BF6 and EA Anti-Cheat to Windows Firewall and Defender exceptions to ensure full access
Verified game files through Steam multiple times (always reports 3 files missing and reacquired)
- File Integrity Verification Behavior
- Verifying the integrity of BF6 via Steam consistently reports: “3 files missing and will be reacquired.”
- Issue persists after multiple verifications and restarts
- Reacquiring files does not resolve launch failures
