Forum Discussion
Hey everyone,I’ve been seeing a lot of reports about extremely high CPU usage and overheating issues affecting certain CPUs while playing. I’ve been trying to spot a pattern, but so far it seems to occur across many setups — especially with CPUs that have 8 or more cores.
Some players have attempted to fix this by creating a “user.cfg” file with their core and thread counts (you can find guides on YouTube or Google by searching “BF6 CPU issues”). However, for many users, this method doesn’t seem to help — even when matching their system’s exact core/thread configuration or limiting the game to fewer cores.
For example, on my i9-12900K:
- user.cfg, Using all cores/threads → no change
- user.cfg, Limiting to 8 cores / 16 threads (performance cores only) → no change
- user.cfg, Limiting to 4 cores / 8 threads → no change, except a ~60% FPS drop
I’ve also tried the following with no improvement:
- Undervolting the CPU
- Updating BIOS
- Using Intel default power settings in BIOS
- Adjusting Windows power plans
To rule out cooling issues, I ran several demanding CPU benchmarks — none of them reached the same temperature spikes I get in-game.
Interestingly, some users reported this issue starting during the beta, while others (like me) only began seeing it after launch.
If you’re facing similar problems, please post your specs and list:
- What you’ve tried so far
- Whether anything helped (and how)
I’ll compile all the information from this thread and, if needed, send a detailed report to the devs.
Thanks for helping track this down.

If the CPU is overheating, it's due to inadequate cooling. Upgrading the CPU cooler is recommended.
Gamers Nexus has some of the best CPU cooler reviews.
If you're gaming on a laptop then there's not much you can do besides turning the CPU fan speed to 100%.

Please read thread carefully, the same cpu doesn’t overheat even with heaviest cpu benchmarks, this shows that cooling and the cpu itself are not in fault.

You could turn off the E-Cores in the bios or try the software Project Lasso to only assign P Cores of your i9.

It doesn’t work, tried. Whatever is assigned gets overheated.

MavzerTufegi I understand and still recommend and CPU cooler upgrade.
BF6 uses AVX2 CPU instructions which causes high CPU temperatures. If the CPU benchmark software isn't configured to use AVX2 instructions that might explain the lower CPU temps during benchmarks.

No the benchmark I use uses AVX2 instructions and it doesn’t overheat my cpu like bf6 does.

No it's not, stop posting this in every **bleep** thread

I'm so glad someone said this. It's gotten to the point where I have had to PRE-FACE every single post on X, Reddit, wherever with "I HAVE TRIED THE STUPID USER.CFG "FIX" AND IT DID NOTHING" before continuing.
Additionally, I am having similar problems. Tried everything. No official word from any devs I am aware of. I paid right at $100 USD for a game that I now can't play (unless I play only those small modes), can't return because I played almost exclusively TDM, Squad DM, and Domination, and the only thing "Wrong" I did was assume having something HIGHER than the "Minimum Specs" would render a playable Conquest/Breakthrough experience...
And it's not just you, not just me. 2 of my buddies are in the same boat. One has already returned it. The other works so much he's waiting it out.
Not a peep from the devs. Worst part is as much as I disliked the game at times 2042 ran WAY better for me. THIS sucks. Going on 2 weeks now with no update, no fix...

What exactly are the problems you are having?
Is it pinned at 100%?
Is your CPU overheating?
What CPU and GPU do you have? CPU cooler? What case? Are you case fans high RPM and set properly in bios? If you're on a laptop do you have a good cooling pad like a V12? When was the last time you cleaned the PC and got rid of dust in the case & GPU fans? How long has it been since the thermal paste was cleaned & reapplied?
What settings are you using? What resolution?
Do you have data from HWINFO or CapFrameX showing the overheating?
"Not a peep from the devs."
What do you want them to say? "Sorry DamageJackal, we specifically made the game run bad for you, our fault, we'll update it so it runs at 400 fps for you in the next patch."

Actually, just checked and I agree, why are you replying with the same thing to every possible cpu issue thread. Please stop spamming. I already address that in the thread anyways, just read. You just write the same thing on very thread, trying to farm the forum?

Bf6 Causes CPUs to Overheat ! its a issue as they hopefully will fix .

i have uninstalled it can't even refund it, (every other game is fine it is just bf6 )
