cant play with friend on xbox

i cant seem to find much resources on this. Has anyone had an issue playing redsec with a friend on xbox with my bf6 bought through steam? We are friends on EA app, but in game, his name never shows, he can send invites through ea connect, but on PC there is no clickable link to join. Only thing i get is "lets play" text.  crossplay is enabled on the xbox end.  not sure whats going on.
