GPU usage drops from 90% to 10%

Whenever I play the game after some time my GPU seems to drop and this results in a massive fps drop to 5 fps.

I don't have any issues with other games and my drivers are updates. Does anyone else experience this issue or does anyone have a solution for this?

If I cant find a solution I'm sad to say that I have to refund which is a really a shame because I really enjoy the game

Let me know if any of you have this issue?

  •  I am experiencing the exact same issue and wanted to add my findings to help get this resolved.

The stuttering is constant and makes the game unplayable, especially in vehicles. Like others, I've monitored my performance and can confirm the issue is a catastrophic drop in GPU usage.

Here is a full breakdown of my experience and the extensive troubleshooting I have performed, which I hope is helpful to the development team.

    Description of Issue:

Continuous and disruptive stuttering occurs within minutes of starting gameplay. The game will frequently freeze for a second or more, making it impossible to control vehicles or aim. The stuttering is persistent and was also present in the beta.

    System Specifications:

    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
    • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB
    • RAM: 32GB DDR4 (Confirmed stable at 3200 MHz via testing)
    • Motherboard: ASRock A520M-HDV
    • OS: Windows 11

    Troubleshooting Steps Performed:

I have confirmed this is not an issue with my PC, but a specific bug with the game.

    • Hardware Stability Confirmed: My PC runs all other graphically demanding games perfectly fine with no similar stuttering issues.
    • Clean Game Installation: The issue persists identically after a complete uninstall and fresh reinstallation of the game.
    • Software Conflicts Ruled Out: The stuttering continues even when running the game in a Windows "Clean Boot" state.
    • Clean Driver Installation: The issue persists after a complete graphics driver wipe using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) followed a clean installation of the latest Nvidia Game Ready Driver.
    • Performance Monitoring Data: Live monitoring with MSI Afterburner shows that when a stutter occurs:
    • CPU temperature remains stable and well below throttle limits (approx. 80°C).
    • The GPU usage drops from a normal ~90-95% to below 10%.
    • The Frametime spikes dramatically (e.g., from 6-7ms to over 70ms).

This data confirms the issue is a stall, where the GPU is not being fed frames. Given all the troubleshooting, the evidence points to a bug in the game engine.

Hoping this information helps the team find a fix soon.

Just a quick update to my report above.

I did some more testing and found something very interesting. I tried using the Nvidia App's global settings to cap my frame rate to 144 FPS to match my monitor's refresh rate.

The result was a noticeable change. The bad news is that the game-breaking stuttering is still present. The good news is that it took about twice as long to start, and the freezes happened less often.

This really seems to suggest that the bug is related to some kind of cumulative stress or resource issue that builds up over time. The lower, capped frame rate just makes that process take longer.

Thought I'd share as this might be a critical clue for the dev team. Hope this helps you guys track it down. Cheers.

Long shot: have you tried creating a text file called user.cfg  in C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 6\ with the following parameters. The actual numbers depend on your CPU . Didn't work for me, but other claims it does.

    user.cfg

Thread.ProcessorCount 12      << your cpu will be different so different number
    Thread.MaxProcessorCount 12     << same as above
    Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
    Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
    GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 24       << your cpu count x2

Just wanted to post a massive thank you for this suggestion about the user.cfg file.

I was at my wit's end with this stuttering issue. I'd tried absolutely everything else and nothing worked. I was about to give up on the game.

Even though you mentioned it didn't work for you, I decided to give it a shot as a last resort.

It has completely fixed the problem for me.

The difference is night and day. I've now played for hours with no stuttering at all, even on High settings with my ultrawide monitor. The game is finally smooth and playable.

So, seriously, thank you again for posting this. You saved the day. Cheers!

I've seen mention of this several times while googling the same issue.  Does the .cfg file impact AMD's utility that runs the x3D cores during games?
