I had previously applied the “enable iGPU” workaround, which did the trick for me and allowed me to play without freezes (since late April; on a Ryzen 7 7700). When a BIOS update became available for my motherboard a week or so ago, I decided enough time had passed and enough changes had occurred that a re-test was in order. So, after flashing the new BIOS, I re-disabled the iGPU, hoping for the best—and indeed, no more freezing, even with the iGPU disabled. I must have played at least 30 hours without issue since then.
For reference, the changes I have made to my system since the freezes first started happening:
- Updated the AMD chipset drivers from 8.02.18.557 (March 9 2026) to 8.05.04.516 (May 18 2026)
- Installed Windows Update KB5089549, the 2026-05 Security Update, bringing the Windows 11 build to 26200.8457
- Updated the BIOS of my mainboard, a Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite WIFI7, from F11 to F12, going from AMD AGESA 1.2.8.0 to 1.3.0.1
Of course, Steam also applied all Battlefield 6 and EA Anti-Cheat/Javelin updates as they became available. I should note that I was already freeze-free before yesterday’s big mid-season-3 update, though.
I am still on the same Nvidia graphics driver I had installed in April, version 596.36.
Hope this helps in narrowing down the culprit so that a fix can be found for those who are still affected.
