System crash and automatic restart after Season 3 update

Platform: PC — Steam

When did this start: May 12, 2026, following the Season 3 / Update 1.3.1.0 patch. Played without any issues the day before the patch.

Summary: Since the Season 3 update today, Battlefield 6 causes a system crash. Screen goes black, PC automatically restarts, and boots back into Windows normally with no error screen. This has occurred three times today across different maps and game modes, including during a pre-match lobby before a match even began. No issues on any other games before or after. No issues with BF6 prior to today's patch.

Incidents:

  • ~1:15 PM — Mid-match, Railway to Golmud, Conquest
  • ~2:10 PM — Mid-match, Railway to Golmud, Conquest (second occurrence)
  • ~3:45 PM — Pre-match lobby, Hagental Base, CQB Team Deathmatch (before match loaded)

How often: 3 crashes across approximately 5-6 total sessions today

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch Battlefield 6 via Steam
  2. Load into any match or lobby post Season 3 update
  3. Play for ~ 30-60 minutes. Screen goes black and PC automatically restarts with no warning or error message. PC boots back into Windows normally.

System specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7600X
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070
  • Motherboard: ASUS B650E MAX Gaming WiFi
  • RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5-6000
  • OS: Windows 11
  • Resolution: 3840x1600
  • Driver version: 596.49 (updated today)
  • Game version: 1.3.1.0 (Season 3)

Event Viewer: Bluescreen event (Event ID 1001, Windows Error Reporting) logged at 2:10 PM. Bugcheck code 0x9F (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE). P2 value of 0x3 indicates a device object was blocking an IRP for too long. Full parameters: P1: 9f, P2: 3, P3: ffffbe951b4b120, P4: ffffd28fd64df000, P5: ffffbe896a289de0, P6: 10_0_26200. Minidump at C:\WINDOWS\Minidump. No crash dumps generated in BF6 CrashDumps folder.

  • Hello dafarquaad,

I’ve reviewed your DxDiag report. The key points I noted are as follows:

・ LiveKernelEvent 117 = Graphics driver stopped responding
    ・ LiveKernelEvent 193 = Hardware failure

While there may be more than one potential cause, these codes strongly suggest that the GPU is the direct or indirect cause. You says “Driver version: 596.49 (updated today)”— was this update installed before or after the incident? Have you tried downgrading to versions prior to 596.49?

The nature of the crashes and the PC environment differ from my setup (Windows 10 Home ESU, ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus), but I resolved the issue by following the steps https://forums.ea.com/discussions/battlefield-6-technical-issues-en/season-3-update-feedback-major-improvements-in-download-stability-and-speed/13400480

  • Same issue.

After launching Battlefield 6 I can’t get through a full Conquest match without a hard system freeze usually near the end of a match or half. Mouse keyboard and audio all stop responding and I have to force restart by holding the power button. This started after the latest update and has happened multiple times with a consistent pattern after the game has been running.

It has also happened in the loadout editor on the main menu. Other intensive AAA games are fine.

    System | Ryzen 9 9900X3D | 64GB RAM | RTX 5080 16GB | SSD about 82 percent used | Windows 11 64 bit x64

  • Same issue but I'm seeing it happen more often when I try to play Redsec Ranked.
