Hello, I've been struggling with this problem for six months now. It manifests itself strangely: you can play for a couple hours and everything will be fine, but then it crashes the 6th or 7th game because of it. It freezes so completely that I have to reboot the computer with the button. Sometimes resetting the secure boot keys helps, but not always. What's interesting is that before the freeze, the FPS can drop from 120 to 50-40 for a few seconds, followed by the game crashing. During the freeze, the Windows log shows an error message saying "You need to update your secure boot keys/CA," but updating them doesn't solve the problem. Also, if I wait a few seconds during a freeze, I get a BSOD with the stop code "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION."
OC: Windows 10 22H2
MB: Gigabyte X870E elite wifi 7
Processor: Ryzen 9800X3D (No overclocking)
Graphic Card: RTX 5090 (Undervolted, Driver 591.86)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 2x32 6000MHz
The game is installed on an SSD, which passes all integrity checks.
P.S. Undervolting the video card didn't affect this issue; I tested it with the stock card and it didn't help. Moreover, these issues don't occur in more demanding games like CB2077, Wukong, RE9, etc.
BF6 Hard Freeze / DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG - RTX 4090 / AMD 9800X3D - What I've tried
System specs:
- AMD Ryzen 9800X3D
- RTX 4090
- Gigabyte X870E AORUS MASTER (BIOS F13a)
- Seasonic Prime Titanium 1000W
- 32GB DDR5 @ 6000 MT/s (EXPO enabled)
- Windows 11
- LG C4 EVO 44"
The problem: BF6 crashes consistently, sometimes after 20 minutes, sometimes in the main menu. Either a hard freeze requiring a power button reset, or a DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error. Every other game runs perfectly. Happens across multiple NVIDIA driver versions.
What I've tried:
- Disabled Xbox Game Bar and background recording
- Disabled MPO (Multi-Plane Overlay) via registry, OverlayTestMode = 5
- Adjusted TDR settings via registry, TdrLevel = 3, TdrDelay = 60
- Removed MSI Afterburner undervolt and reset GPU to stock
- Cleared BF6 shader cache
- Verified game files via Steam
- Disabled Frame Generation in BF6
- Switched from DLAA to DLSS
- Switched to TAA
- Ran SFC and DISM
Results: Nothing has fully resolved it. TDR adjustment extended some sessions to 45 minutes but crashes still occur. Hard freezes persist requiring a forced power off.
Notes: Event Viewer shows Kernel-Power 41 (BugcheckCode 0) and nvlddmkm Event ID 153 errors. Only happens in BF6.
If any logs or additional testing would be helpful from my end, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm happy to assist in any way I can to help get this resolved. Also some posted this: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2807960/discussions/0/804596796626134253/
