Battlefield 1 Instant Crash on Startup

Title says it all. Using i5 6500 and an RX480. GPU drivers are on 16.9.2. I haven't played the game in a few days, but I find it odd that after updating it today and trying to play it instantly freezes/crashes. Doesn't even make it to the main menu of the game. Tried repairing the game from Origin but it didn't help. Tried running game as administrator, didn't help. Any ideas? Is it a bug? Is it my drivers? Are there crash logs that I can share to help diagnose this?

  • This actually is an issue for many like me from the launch of the game, still not fix, and still not fix after patch, in your case, that everything was working before patch, try uninstalling msi afterburner, seems some people get a conflict with it

  • Had the same problem. I did the "disable origin in game" setting in origin and that didn't work.

I also found that disabling MSI Afterburner seemed to get BF1 working again but I wanted to use my overclock settings. So I went into Afterburner to try and pin down what may have been causing the issue.

What seems to have ended up working for me was going into the MSI Afterburner settings ->video capture tab ->Changed video capture to NONE by backspace-deleting the hotkey F10 value that was present and it changed the value to NONE. Also kept video prerecord to NONE.

So far seems to be fine now with overclock settings in place.

Sidenote: if you have Xbox app installed might want to open it and go into settings menu --> Game DVR --> Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR and turn it OFF as well.
