Battlefield 3 crashes when clicking video settings in game

Battlefield 3 crashes when clicking video settings in game - every time!! Reinstalled the game and the same. Drivers are most recent. Did not happen on windows 7. Upgraded to 10 and everytime it crashes.

  • I figured it out. I use a Sony 4K TV as my main screen. I unplugged the HDMI for that and had my Dell monitor (connected to Display Port) set up as my main screen. Only then was I able to get into the Video settings without crashing, set it to "windowed" like I wanted and then connected back to my Sony TV.

Weird...why would be connected to a TV cause video options to crash the game.

    Same problem on my PC.

    Windows 10 Pro, 32GB RAM, RTX 3050 4GB, Intel i5 7600K

  • hey everyone, I had the same issue. I turned off AMD Freesync premium pro in my monitor settings and it fixed the issue, I'm able to open bf3 video settings without the game crashing and closing. I understand everyone's situation is different but if you have a monitor with Freesync or even Gsync on, try turning it off to see if it works.  Best of luck!! (:

ever since i got a new monitor bf3 is stuck on my old settings and i can't change it (nVidia control panel isn't even letting me turn off Gsync off for bf3)

i also have 4K TV as main screen and i have no other display to "bypass" this quite serious bug...you can switch between screen modes with ALT+ENTER but it will crash even in windowed mode so i cant access video settings...btw the only way of STARTING OFFLINE SOLO CAMPAIGN THROUGH FREAKING WEBSITE IS INSANE!!!

  • ➡️➡️➡️ HOW TO FIX THIS: Disable FreeSync/G-Sync/Adaptative Sync in the monitor settings. ⬅️⬅️⬅️

It will stop crashing. Adjust your settings, save them, close the game, and re-enable whatever-sync again if you want to.

disable it in general, change bf3 video settings, and then enable it again. that simple.

  • I have the same issue, however none of the fixes worked. I tried turning off gsync, adaptive sync in my monitor settings, restoring bf3's original settings through nvidia control panel, setting my monitor to 1080p 60hz, deleting the config files, and changing the config files to my resolution, both 1440p 240hz and 1080p 60hz.
