Battlefield 4 Ping not displaying in-game, hardware ports?

Hello, my ping always displays as a minus ("-") inside games and I would like to have a proper value here. It is interfering with my gameplay and some servers kick me off because their scripts are looking for a valid value. I need to resolve this. I have allowed the Battlefield 4 application in my Windows Firewall to go through for all network interfaces. However, I do have a hardware router with a built-in firewall above my internet connection, which I installed, for additional security purposes. I need to configure it to allow Battlefield 4 through as well, without disabling the entire router or turning myself into a DMZ host (which would defeat said security purposes). I can handle the configuration end, but I'm going to need some numbers. What ports do I need to have open so that I can fix this ping issue? Is it using the standard ping as defined in internet RFC or does it have its own custom ping job going? Please advise.

same problem here. And I'm too inept and lazy to play around fixing it. All I wanna do is play the game. In the words of Sgt Hartman, "Your a killer, not a computer programmer!" Anyway it does explain some of the games I was kicked from and couldn't figure out why. I often just assume it's because they're makeing room for reserved members. I asked in game one time why my ping wasn't showing up, and someone told me it's because I'm a haxor....Simple or automated answers would be helpful.

Sorry for replying to an old post, but this issue still happens, this was a thread high up in search results, and having suffered from the problem I eventually found a fix that worked for me. So here's a possible solution:

    Here's the problem:
In Battlelog, all you get is a dash '-' where there should be pings against games
In BF4, where everyone else has a ping, you've just got a dash '-'
And... some servers kick you because you're not reporting a ping.

First: check if you've got the right problem:

    1. open a command prompt as administrator (google it)
    2. try "ping 127.0.0.1" (without the quotes)
    3. if nothing happens, you've got the same problem as me, and it can be fixed. Press Ctrl+C to cancel the ping request.
    4. if you get a series of "Reply from 127.0.0.1..." lines, this isn't your problem, sorry, I can't help you.

    To fix the problem:
It's something to do with your TCP/IP setup, and this solved mine:

    1. open a command prompt as administrator
    2. do "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" (without the quotes)
    3. restart your computer
    4. try the "ping 127.0.0.1" again - and if that gets replies this time, it's fixed.
    5. if not - sorry, this didn't work for you.

    A bit more info...
The solutions offered online include: reinstalling the whole game, punkbuster, origin client etc; forwarding ports, doing firewall things etc. For me, none of these worked. They probably did for some people.
However, the hint for me came when I realised that my browser (Chrome) was trying to contact http://127.0.0.1:3125 to get the ping numbers for Battlelog, and to do that it wanted the Origin client open. In other words - it had nothing to do with the game or punkbuster, but just the Origin client. I thought I might be able to ping the Origin client (silly me), but ended up on this page:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/ping-to-loopback-interface-fails-general-failure/103b7ebf-1072-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?auth=1
    ... which had the solution.

I have the same problem, after I was forced to upgrade to new Origin when playing Battlefield 4.  Tried everything to fix it.  Origin not properly tested.  I've recommended that members not to buy new Battlefield 1, until ping problem is fixed or allow us to revert back to last version which had no ping problem. Origin doesn't even acknowledge the ping problem??

  • I'm closing this thread to stop it being necroed.

If you have any issues with Battlefield 4 please make a new topic about the issues you are having and what kind of steps you have tried to solve it.
