Battlefield Hardline: PC download seems corrupt? Graphical issues.

Apologies for wall of text.  TL;DR to follow.

I purchased and downloaded this game a few days ago on my Origin account.  It took 5 hours to download and install.  Campaign mode will not work.  Some of the audio files will not play;  I cannot hear the man speaking to my character at the door to the hotel, but all of the ambient sound plays normally.  Interacting with the door is impossible after this.  All multiplayer maps were lagging terribly or spawning me into a world with no walls or objects.  Only people, running around in the air with a background.

Tried repairing the game at this point, and it repeatedly gave me:  Battlefield has stopped working.   No further explanation in the error message.  At this point, I uninstalled the game and spent another 5 hours re-downloading all 30g of this *.  Campaign has the same issue.  No sound.  No interaction.  There is no sound on the multiplayer loading screen either.  I managed to get into a map (Bank Job), but there is an odd red tint to the sky and a 'fog of war' type effect that intensely blurs anything beyond 30ft of my character.  Screen tearing like I have never seen before.  There are clearly objects that I cannot see, as I run into invisible 'walls' that I assume are cars my PC will not load for whatever reason.

This red tint went away once, but the map was unplayable due to -extreme- FPS/lag issues that were not present before.  I left the server, requeued the same one and the red sky returns.  Oddly, while the sky is red, I do not have any FPS/lag issues whatsoever, on any of the video settings.  So far, this game has been a waste of $40 and the biggest headache of any game I've played since -Atari- came out..  I've gone through the Punkbuster fix, it did not work.  I've set everything to run on admin, it does not help.  I've tried Vsync on and off, ran the game fullscreen and windowed and borderless, ultra to low and every combination of these.  I've updated, uninstalled and reinstalled my video drivers (nvidia, by the way).  I've repaired the game again on this second download, but now the map that DID work before is no longer loading anything.  I spawn, unable to move, and see nothing but sky box until someone inevitably shoots me.

TL;DR:  Origin download on PC seems corrupt on my system.  Installed twice, repaired twice, unplayable still.  Should I install with the discs that my husband has for his copy of the game, or am I just going to have to download 30gigs a third time and then hope for some sort of patch to fix this train wreck of a game?

This morning I completed some Windows Updates.  Then I used DDU to uninstall display drivers and reinstalled the latest Nvidia.  I made sure that DirextX was up to date, it is version 11.  Visual C++ is also up to date.

Logged in to Battlefield, set all of the display options to LOW and was greeted by this:  http://i.imgur.com/85OUAW3.png

I have not ran a clean boot yet, but I do not see how it would change anything unless Punkbuster is 100% of my issue.  Is that possible?  It seems pretty extreme.  Not sure what else to do at this point.

A clean boot also makes sure no other programs messes with the game. Programs with overlays, overclocking utilities, driver software like Razer Synapse, security software etc. have all been known to cause issues. And yes Punkbuster too.

And checking you have the latest DirectX and VC is not enough, you need to run the installers, preferably found in the _Installer folder in your game directory to make sure they are not broken in some way.

  • Ok, I have ran both of those installers and they completed without issue.  Then I went through the clean boot, but for some reason, some things still turned on that had selected not to.  I manually shut off Razer Synapse and Punkbuster but don't know how to find a server with that feature disabled, so I joined a regular one.  http://i.imgur.com/iGDEjC8.jpg

Could Avast be causing the problem?  It also came on with the clean boot.

Edit:  Disabling Avast did not change anything.
