BF3 crashes

I recently updated Windows from 10 22H2 to 11 24H2 and now all of a sudden I'm not able to start it without it either crashes during startup or crashes while selecting "video" in settings. A couple of days ago while still using Windows 10 it worked flawlessly but ever since the update I'm not able to get it to work properly.

Things I have tried so far but to no avail:

  • Reinstalled it
  • Up to date with both Windows updates and Nvidia drivers
  • Reinstalled Punkbuster, C++ and DirectX
  • Deleted the config files

It feels like something has become corrupt during the update and now it doesn't work anymore even though I have done a fresh install of it.

Is someone else having problems with BF3 while using Windows 11 24H2 or one of the latest Nvidia drivers?

100fps seems really low for a RTX5080. I don't see an Intel display adapter listed so perhaps it's already disabled in BIOS settings.

The reason why I have locked my fps at 144fps is because I have a G-sync monitor and G-sync will only work as long as you keep the frames to your monitors refresh rate. I have a 1440p 144hz monitor and G-sync will only work up to 144fps for a very smooth experience. If I go over 144fps I will noticing screen tearing like any other monitor out there which I can't stand. Input lag and screen tearing is a no no for me and that's why I cap my frames to 144fps.

Have you tried putting the game in windowed mode (alt + enter) and then clicking on video settings?

    Yeah, still crashed.

    Which OS do you use?

Because it's feels like Windows 11 priorities newer game titles to work very smooth and run well while older games either runs bad, crashes or doesn't start at all. It feels like Microsoft is trying to make their OS more and more hostile towards older games, what do you think?

I'm still on Win10. I did a Google search for bf3 video settings crash. It appears the crash might have something to do with monitor refresh rate.

Try setting the refresh rate to 60Hz in Nvidia Control Panel and see if that helps. Another thing you can try is disabling G-sync in an attempt to figure out what's causing the crash.

So, something might have happened with the communication between the GPU and the monitor after the update?

I suppose it's worth a try since I remember the monitor resetting itself to 60hz and I had to manually set it to 144hz after the update.

I've already tried to disable G-sync but that didn't solve anything, the game still crashes when choosing "video settings" and the frames are still all over the place.
