[BF4] Menu is unresponsive to mouse clicks

Since installing Battlefield 4 a couple of weeks ago, about 4 times out of 5 I cannot interact with any main-menu items (no highlight on hover, no click response) and therefore can’t start a game.

It’s very similar to the old Frostbite menu focus bug but none of the known fixes work.

System

  • Minisforum X1 AI H255, AMD 780M iGPU (latest Adrenalin drivers)
  • Windows 11 fully updated
  • Single monitor, Gigabyte M28U
  • Logi MK620 Combo USB mouse and keyboard (no gamepads, VR headsets, etc.)

What I’ve tried (no effect)

  • Toggled Windows HDR on/off
  • Ran BF4 as administrator
  • Disabled EA App overlay and AMD overlay
  • Tested many BF4 shortcut compatibility options (disable fullscreen optimizations, DPI scaling, etc.)
  • Launched BF4 from desktop shortcut, EA App, and AMD Adrenalin
  • Tried repairing the game in the EA app
  • Toggled AMD Super Resolution on/off

Key symptom

If I connect via Windows Remote Desktop, the menu works perfectly and I can always launch a game. But on direct local input, the mouse moves but menu items never highlight and don’t respond to clicks.

Has anyone hit this behavior?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks, I tried those steps but they didn't work. After combing through the forums, I found this post about a similar problem in Battlefield 1, recommending to install the vJoy app. It apparently installs virtual joystick drivers (?!). And it worked for me ! Problem  solved.

  • Hello E5COB4R,

The issue is usually fixed by disabling the EA app overlay and the Discord overlay. Make sure no apps are running in the background when launching the game. Additionally, maybe try reinstalling your game.
