DICE - Please Improve Crossplay In The Next Battlefield

Hello all hope you’re well!

As the title says, please Dice don’t give crossplay a half baked implementation like you did with 2042. Adding crossplay that was default on borderline ruined Battlefield for console users due to the disadvantages that they have, it is not fun to go against PC in an FPS game when you are on console. I play on PC and PS5, I get it.

Here are some advantages that I experience when on PC;

  • Much higher FPS
  • Lower input lag
  • Easier aiming and strafing with M&K
  • Graphical settings to further improve visibility
  • Open source system for things like NVIDIA filters

A console simply cannot compete in an FPS setting vs PC and the feeling of knowing you’re at a disadvantage all because you play on console ruins the Battlefield experience.

Because of this you had countless PS5 players and Xbox players downloading the older gen Battlefield 2042 just so they could have console only crossplay, this was absurd and shouldn’t have needed to be a thing.

I’m sure you have read the backlash this caused when you first announced it many years ago for 2042, alongside the constant discussions regarding this since, I truly hope you improve crossplay in the next Battlefield title and make it a fair environment.

There are a few things you can do to improve this such as;

  • Crossplay off by default.
  • Console only crossplay + pool console players with PC when in a party with a friend on PC (my favourite and most streamlined implementation)
  • Input based matchmaking.

Default on crossplay is an issue, it’ll never be balanced and will turn off players from your game, you “encouraged” crossplay in 2042 and it didn’t work, mostly because it wasn’t “encouraged” it was forced onto console users due to the default setting being on.

Do you also remember the bug that happened in 2042 where console users weren’t being matched with PC players through matchmaking? Look at the utmost positive reaction that received from the community. Take notes please.

No one wants to play a game where they feel like they are not on an equal playing battle-field (see what I did there?)

Thanks!

  • Fully agree, crossplay should be an option, not on by default!

    But my feeling is that they will copy-paste the crossplay implementation from BF2042 just for the sake of cost saving as they’d need less servers.

    As long as they won’t support MnK on consoles crossplay will only keep causing frustration in both communities. PC players complain about aim assist which console players get, and console players will complain about the movement advantage a mouse provides over a controller.

    But even if they would allow MnK on console I wonder if you ever will get a leveled playing field. There would still be lag caused by the different networks having to communicate with each other back and forth.

    The few times I’ve played BF2042 with crossplay on were an unpleasant experience and have made me switch crossplay off never to turn it on again.

    Input based matchmaking would be good also and it’s something I and many other console users would gladly accept, but my personal favourite is console only lobbies then placing console players in PC lobbies when playing with friends who are also on PC.

    That way I feel is most streamlined and everyone wins.

    But you are right regarding network issues, if they can’t fix that just get rid of crossplay altogether as that affects everyone.

  • As a PC player, I would agree that we have an advantage in FPS games over console players, and I can understand some of you not wanting to play against us. I get it! And my opinion on cross-play may be an unpopular one, but if it were up to me, cross-play would ONLY exist between PS and Xbox players. I'd keep PC players out of cross-play. The ONLY way I would allow cross-play with console and PC is by having input-based matchmaking, which a lot of players are calling for. My biggest concern with cross-play is the network-related issues it causes. Look at the issues 2042 suffers from. Getting shot behind cover. Hit-reg issues. Delay in weapons firing. Missing sound, just to name a few. If these types of issues are something that cannot be fixed with cross-play, then Dice should remove it from the game. I understand some want to play with friends across the different platforms, but if the game is going to run poorly with cross-play, it needs to be removed from the game. I want the next BF game to run as smoothly as possible. I don't want to be dealing with the same issues BF 2042 suffers from.

  • I agree. Console players should not be forced to play against PC players and vice versa. Then everybody would be happy. A well hidden option to enable it at will would be ok.

    Hopefully we can get some answers soon on how matchmaking will work in the newer Battlefield.

    No hate toward my PC brothers and sisters but it just ain’t fun playing against them on console, in fact it’s just disheartening lol!

    I’m excited for the new Battlefield, but it is rather tampered with due to the concern of Dice implementing the exact same crossplay they used in 2042… which would suck for a huge portion of the player base

    There have been countless threads and posts on social media platforms regarding it, heck even one of the most upvoted posts on the 2042 forums was regarding console only crossplay so I’m praying that they are actually listening.

    Console only crossplay or input based matchmaking please, fingers crossed!🤞

  • If it does come back in the next game, and I suspect it will, I just hope that it's opt-in this time. I'd also like keyboard and mouse support with input-based matchmaking if someone chooses to use full crossplay.

  • Hello AJ_Clickz,

    The best improvement for crossplay would be not having it in any future Battlefield games. Maybe extreme, but I think it would be the right move.

  • I completely agree. Crossplay should be console only by default with the option of joining PC parties if console players wish to crossplay with PC.
