Fed Up with the way users are allowed to act on Battlelog

I contacted EA shortly after bf3 was released about the way users were allowed to treat other users on battlelog, and here we are a year and a half later and this behavior is still continuing.  Battelog is suppose to allow the community to come together, not be an avenue for users to troll, spread hate, and treat other bf players like garbage.  Something needs to be done about this.  I enjoy battlefield but this behavior is uncalled for and I refuse to support a company that allows it to happen.

I concur with the Battelog behavior. I noticed moderators are getting a little better about it but like Ragnarok (Is that a reference to the Black Metal band?!) said, the amount of new posts are staggering!

Really what is needed is an automatic system to address new posts. This is easily feasible with adequate system resources and performance. Simply parse out the text from new threads and new replies to check for keywords or characteristics such as:

    • Redundant strings (AKA Spam)
    • Redundant threads similar to recent threads (Include recent thread suggestions)
    • Keywords associated with violations (IE: Curse words, racist slang, etc...)
    • Define a reasonable character limit or logic to determine if certain keywords are used to allow the post if under the character limit
    • Either automatic action should be taken, the post is suspended until review, or the post is published but auto-notified to the moderator.
    • Reputation system to utilize user weights based on reporting accuracy and consistency to determine reports that take precedence or are even auto-approved.
    • Extend moderation abilities to reputable users.

I'd be more than happy to assist with the development, logic, and/or testing of the suggestions above.

As for the OP (falselion)...The lack of action on your reports and threads is a result of your own actions. A lot of websites (Including forums and what-not) with reporting features has a weight system to determine who gives accurate reports VS inaccurate or inconsistent reports. If all reports are 100% accurate and justified then additional reports would take precedence over reports made by others. Reputation overtime would also play a role. If these forums use a similar system then that further explains your specific situation.

There forum thread examples you posted demonstrate this and is even acknowledged by EA:

    Hi there,

I totally agree with you. There will always be kids on the forums who spamming, trolling etc. The Moderator team and EA are doing as much as they can to solve this. But there are hundred of thousands threads and it take time to go through them all.

If you see more of these threads, contact a Moderator on Battlelog and they will lock or remove the thread.

    - With kind regards,

      Timmie.

yeah but the problem is they use their "judgement" as to whether it's a violation or not

saw a racial slur from 3 days ago that was still sitting there earlier, which I'm sure someone reported....then I criticize the way the admins do their job and the type of allowed behavior and those threads are locked/censored within 30 mins

wish I could find an e-mail address that would go directly to EA's corporate because the community manager and I have gotten into it over this before and last time I was able to at least report him to them....unfortunately he's still there

As it stands right now, I probably will not buy bf4 because the way it's community is/has been handled.  I've never seen a game's community forums handled as poorly as battlelog is.  I was marketing manager for a competitive gaming community for a number of years and we never allowed this type of behavior to occur in game, out of game, anywhere....and that goes for our admins as well.  We got rid of a few that played the bias card....battlelog is just shameful.

    Hi again,

I will forward the threads to a EA Community Manager and they can lock/remove the thread. As I said, there is many many threads and it can be hard to keep an eye on every single thread 24/7. Hope you understand that.

Battlelog might need more Moderators or forum keepers then? :robotwink:

Also, if they have locked the thread then it is more like a warning for the thread creator. They do remove threads as well.

well I don't know if that's who AgentX is but he seems to be more part of the problem than the solution.  This is twice I've ran into this problem, I brought up the fact that I was tired of forum users treating others however they pleased maybe a month after initial release, and about all that did was get me flamed by a couple of the battlelog users....I eventually complained to support, they said sorry gave me some discount code I never used, and I basically quit playing the game over how aggravated I was.  Now here it is a year and a half later, comments get reported, nothing get's done about those comments when they're clear rule violations....I brought it up in the battlelog suggestion thread, and the bf3 suggestion thread that admins need to start policing the forums, and posted a comment, and both threads get locked, and my comment censored (hopped in the shower to get ready for work and got out and that's what I came back to)....which supposedly it was because I was spamming.  Clearly the admins don't get what spamming is, yes there's a rule stating you're not suppose to make numerous posts....but I still think it's a topic that needs to get addressed....and seeing as how I can't seem to find an e-mail to battlelog support to vent my frustrations again, seems like on battlelog is the only place.

No other game's community forums are this way, they'll ban users, and they'll make sure they treat other's with respect.....yet year and a half later....bf3's are just as bad as they were upon release, the admins don't care unless you criticize them.  It's ridiculous.

The best course of action regarding trolls is to either ignore them or report them via clicking on the triangle with the exclamation point in their post or profile. It always helps when you paste the URL of the offensive thread or comment into the report when reporting them.

and yes, that works sometimes, but it seems that a few of the admins are either entertained or just completely ignore offensive behavior as well.  I'm talking offensive behavior, i.e. racial slurs (as I said there was at least one that had been there 3 days, yet my post criticizing the admins....censored in 30 minutes), personal attacks on other users, basically the harassment isn't dealt with.  Course if it's an all caps post, they'll lock that thread in 15 minutes.

This is response I always get, report them, and we can't discuss the consequences of reporting users....I don't need it discussed but when I see the same users over and over again doing the same crap....one in particular had a thread locked for bashing other users, then he's off in another thread doing the same thing....

This was the same story a year and a half ago.  I remember one user who would constantly come into the console forums and harass console players....he was never dealt with, he might get a suspension from the forums, he'd be back half a day later doing the exact same thing.  I criticized the way admins were handling battlelog back then, and I got suspended from the forums for a couple of hours.  Here it is a year and a half later, and it's still the same crap....the offensive users aren't getting dealt with, but those of us that come out and speak up against this behavior being looked past get our threads locked....even when we aren't being disrespectful to the administrators....

so let me get this straight, when I go to a concert or sporting event and there's a drunk and obnoxious guy making a fool of himself....if I go and tell the usher, he's just going to tell me to ignore the guy and shut up?  Chances are I'd never go back to the venue again if that happened.

If I go into a business, and there's some idiot running around yelling and screaming and doing whatever he wants, is that manager going to tell me to just ignore him and shut up?  If so chances are I'd never go to that business again.

I've worked in the public eye since high school and if I treated someone the way I've been treated twice now on battlelog....I'd fear for my job....
