@Skill4ReelI'm with you on this one. I think too many prople use it as an 'excuse' for getting killed because it couldn't possibly be their fault!
It is also one of the main reasons I hope a proper hardcore mode returns so that those that don't like it can crack on in there leaving us mear mortals to our own game.
Exactly !
Just because some prefers it ON doesn't mean that everybody else has to only get it ON also.
When the game fairly easily can be set up to cater to all the tastes and preferences out there!
I play both softcore and hardcore and find great pleasure in both!
Now with regards to having 3D spotting ON, then its more a question about how brutally ON it is then.
As for the function was to encourage teamplay and coordination (as many players also lack the headset while in game to communicate that way), then the tagging was a way to enable this. Question is though with the mechanics associated with this. Which also can be used to diminish how 'helpful' it actually is or not. Aka, it should only be possible to visually tag enemies in near/medium range, and the tagging would get lost as soon at they are out of direct line of sight. Aka hiding well under foliage or bushes should disable being spotted, as also like heavy smoke did in BF4. And as soon as you run out of sight, the dorito on your head should be no more...
So you are encouraged to run, get into hiding, go prone. You try to get that dorito off your head as quick as possible. If you stay stationary in the same place, you'll get picked up pretty soon. So 3D spotting discourages camping or sitting in a bush as a Recon player (as they often do in HC mode, right? :o). Or you could try to go as fast as possible in full Rambo-style to bring some enemies in the grave with you. If you are screwed enough, why not try to get a few more kills with you in the process. One of the reasons Battlefield is great fun. It goes full-on crazy chaotic at times, and that creates many of those "only in Battlefield" moments! 3D spotting get players moving - and that is fun!
In BF4 it was a global mechanic for everybody. You can take advantage of it much more than you get screwed by it. It creates some positive dynamics that only de-favor the most static players. But all agreed, if ON, it should not lighten up the entire battlefield of enemies, making it as easy as shooting fish in a barrel...
