Hi rhino276,
I believe Battlefield only runs 720p on ps3 to keep a 60FPS
framerate.
This should be printed on the back of the box.

There are very few PS3 games that run at 1080p on a PS3. The hardware is simply not capable of running BF4 on that resolution. Even the Xbox One will only run the game at 720p, while the PS4 version will run at 900p.

On the current-gen consoles, the max framerate is 30. During the beta, the Xbox 360 version even dropped below that during heavy action.

Then why does it say 1080I 1080P on the box??

Just talked to a EA customer service guy and it should run 1080p, i guess im not the only one, but they are working on a patch. So until then im stuck on 720 unfortunately.
Thanks though.

They can upscale the resolution to output a native 1080 signal, but that would still be a stretched image. The game is only rendered at 720p. A patch can't make a game render at a much higher resolution without a performance drop. That's not how it works.

Same issue. I have a 1080p native TV, Hi-speed HDMI and everything I own is HDCP compatible. The game will revert back to 720p once running. If you try the "PS3 workaround", where you disable all resolutions except 1080p, all it does is downsample to 480p. Ive tried this with other PS3 game such as GTA4, COD MW2, COD BO, and GT5. All work in 1080p. All run a native res lower than what I'm scaling to. No upscale issues whatsoever. JUST Battlefield 4.

AND... before anybody tries to tell me what I should think looks good (720 or 1080i/p)or whats acceptable, I have 60 inch LCD that I use for gaming (about 5-6 feet from where I sit). Upscaled or not, 1080p is ALWAYS better looking than 720p. Just my two cents. I can deal with the framerate drop provided that the trade-off is that I now have more clarity in the picture.

It is not about what looks better, 1080p or 720.
I also know that the cod series are actually upscaled. They makethe game in 720p and then upscale it to 1080p so it runs that
resolution natively. In this case the upscaling has already been done
by the developers.
It wouldn't be able to handle 1080p on low.
