For me, this just started happening, also. UGH! WTF!
Only, this started happening for me, yesterday, on Valentines Day.
I would fire up a match in Server Browser and it would freeze a second or 2 after I deploy. 3-times in a row!
I tried everything I possibly could from searching & searching on the Internet for a 'fix'. There wasn't one.
It is FINE on my xBox 360, tho! I played a couple hours tonight, but then tried again on my playstation 3 console and BAMM! Happened again!
After doubting the ps3 optical drive, I tried Borderlands 2 and played for an hour. Then, I even tried another DICE game, Medal of Honor 1 and played just-fine! Online & all! (I actually kicked some arse, too! HA!) So, it couldn't be the disc! Right?
Then, I tried BF3 *again* and NOPE! Froze-up, locked-up, or whatever you want to call it, right-after I deployed (spawned).
I have had the game since it came out in October 2011 and have played it regularly ever since.
NO SCRATCHES on the disc! NO SMUDGES, either.
NOTE: I have Premium on both xBox & ps3 with *all* DLC installed on where ever it goes.
Also, I should add that I played Modern Warfare 2 for the 1st time in over a year on the ps3 *&* xBox right-before this started happening. One time, on the ps3, I was in thee-most-hacked room I have ever seen in my life. My friend became a non-prestige 70 level whatchacall afterwards and during the experience, the whole room was whacked! I was floating up and down without touching the controller. WE BOTH "quit game" and reluctantly returned for more, but did not experience a room like that, since. I'm not sure if being hacked had anything to do with it, but figured I should add-this to my complaint for BF3 locking up.

I was sssO-freaking-out about it! I did what many other claimed 'failed for them'. I deleted the "Game Data" for BF3!!! But I kept the "Save Data"! AND IT WORKED! HA!
Assuming potential corruption from playing in a VERY-hacked lobby on MW2 before this freezing started, I deleted *everything* Modern Warfare 2 off my ps3, also. Not sure if that had anything to do with BF3 locking-up, but Battlefield 3 now-works on my Playstation 3! omg-omg-omg!
In my previous rant about the problem, I hadn't tested Campaign OR CO-OP, but Campaign would freeze 2-seconds-in, ALSO!
After I deleted the 9289MB from the "Game Data Utility" (while my internet was disconnected), I fired-up the game disk and it did a semi-quick install on my HDD. Then, I tried Campaign. I clicked "continue Campaign" and it started to fire up, surprizingly, where I left off. I suppose that is where the "Saved Data Utility" comes in. Not sure yet. But, then IT wanted Internet, for some reason and would NOT do Campaign from where I left off. I did not want to start a new one. So, I avoided that. I plugged in the ethernet cable to my Comcast connection and clicked multiplayer. It *instantly* wanted to download a 1924MB update. So, I gave it permission. It took over 2-HOURS to complete that 1st mandatory DLC!!! FUUUHHH!!! But, I did it anyway! When it was done, wham-bamm! IT WORKED!!! HAAA!!! There was even a spot to click "re-download multiplayer online pass". (thank Gawd!!!) I'M A KILLING MACHINE AGAIN!!! HAAA!!!
Now, I cannot say what would have happened if I deleted the Saved Data Utility, cos I did NOT. I don't think that was required for this fix.
I had doubted that deleting the "Game Data" would solve the problem, but it surely did work! For those that have this problem in the future, I apologize for my thread being sssO long, but I figure detail is important. And if you have read about all the ppl that have NOT had success with deleting the game-save in the "Game Data Utility", that is only because you haven't read the "success stories" (like mine) b/c those people got what they wanted were too lazy to report back, like I am doing now! The ppl who didn't have success from deleting the Game Data, must have had other issues, too!

This is just a follow up on our conversation on case number:
As mentioned, here are the troubleshooting steps for your (concern). Please do the following steps below:
1. Delete the Game Data:
- Navigate to the Game section of the main menu and select Game Data Utility.
- Highlight the game you are troubleshooting and press ? then select delete and restart the console.
2. Disable the Media Server Connection:
- Navigate to the Settings section of the main menu and select Network Settings then select Media Server Connection and select Disable then restart the console.
- If the issue still persist, please do try to power cycle your modem and router.
3. Clear your temporary files:
- From the Cross Media Bar (PS3 Main Menu), locate the internet browser.
- Once there, select the Internet Browser with "X"
From the internet browser, press the Triangle button to reach the options menu.
- This menu will have multiple options. Please navigate to the "Tools" section.
-In the "Tools" section, there are a few items available for deletion near the bottom of this list. All of these options can be deleted without any negative consequences.
- Please see the "Tool" section here and delete the items below:
- Cookies
- Search History
- Cache
- Authentication Information
- Power cycle the PS3 console and try to connect once again.
4. Check your save data for corruption:
- Navigate to the Game section of the main menu.
- Select Save Data Utility.
- Highlight the game you are troubleshooting and press X.
- Scroll through the save data for the game. If any save data is corrupt, this will display as a warning message below the data tile.
- If you locate corrupt save data, highlight it and press Δ, then select delete.
5. Backup your data, then delete and redownload your PSN ID. (This step should be ignored if you do not have the requisite hardware.). To do this, please do use this link: http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/backuputility.html
