While I do enjoy PVE very much (the Battlefield series is basically the only competitive multiplayer games I actually play) and can see how adding bots to older Battlefield titles could help with their longevity, it's highly unlikely that a large-scale change like this would be made at this point. Unfortunately, the older titles have now ended development, so the only changes to expect are fixes for severe game-breaking bugs.
I do really like your idea about incorporating RTS elements, though, as it reminded me of an older RTS game where you could enter specific units and see things through their eyes. Can't remember for the life of me what it was called though.
