PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer in Battlefield V, so if your son's PSN account doesn't have it, he won't be allowed to access online features in the game. Creating and linking EA account is a free process 🙂

If it's telling you to purchase something EA related, it's most likely talking about EA Access, which is completely separate. You'll only need to link his PSN with a free EA ID in order for him to play - https://www.ea.com/register
If you have a digital copy of BFV you can always gameshare with him - Whoever owns the original digital copy just needs to put their account "activation" on the other person's system (they'll still require PS+, however.
