College Football 25 Gameplay Deep Dive

Hey, football fans!

Eager for more details on College Football 25? Check out the full Gameplay Deep Dive at the link below:

College Football 25 Gameplay Deep Dive

The Deep Dive is pretty meaty, so please take a moment to give it a read. I did want to call out a few snippets from the article that may help answer some of your questions we've seen here on AHQ:

Will players have X-Factors in College Football 25?

  • In College Football 25 we are introducing 80 abilities. These abilities are purely situational boosts, and there are no guarantees. Abilities are categorized into two groups: physical and mental. Each of these groups is further divided into four tiers: bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. The most a player can have at any given time is five physical and three mental abilities.

Will there be weather that affects the gameplay?

  • Throwing or handling a wet football is challenging and a fundamental component of the game. We have introduced several changes to gameplay that make the experience more immersive and realistically difficult. The weather now plays a significant role in influencing the outcome of the game, and effects are far from subtle.

Will College Football 25 have custom playbooks?

  • This year over 1,500 new plays, more than 50 formations, along with 134 team playbooks have been created to reflect current offensive and defensive trends in the sport. In addition to team playbooks, College Football 25 also includes 10 non-team playbooks. These are based on a variety of play styles such as Air Raid, Multiple Pistol, Power Spread, Option, Pro, Run & Shoot, Spread, Spread Option, and Veer & Shoot. These playbooks can be customized and saved as a custom playbook, adding an extra layer of strategy to the game.

We hope you're as excited as we are to lace up and hit the field. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the gameplay features in College Football 25. Please let us know what you think in the thread below!

  • I am beyond excited. Two things real quick... I haven't seen ANYTHING about Kansas State or a glimpse of them in the game. Anything would get me super hyped... they are the current favorite to win the Big 12 this year, just saying. Also, I know our QB will be a freshman this year, but Avery Johnson beat out this year's starting QB for Ohio State. He is the reason Will Howard transferred. He put on a master class in his bowl game against a highly-rated NC State defense, ran for 5 TDs against Texas Tech, and will be a DOMINANT force this year. If he is not more highly rated than Will Howard, K-State fans will be very disappointed.

  • Overall pretty dissapointed.. looks a lot like madden with options and 1 hand catches.. I saw some of the EXACT same animations that run in Madden games.

I knew everyone who tested it that came out and immediately said it was different was likely told by EA to say this.. but I'd hoped I was wrong. I'll likely have to pass on this game.. thanks for taking the time to do a proper reskin of the game, just wish the actual product was better. This could have been the chance to start with ALL new gameplay and then reskin madden.. maybe in the next gen cycle you guys can start building a game from the ground up, though probably not.. with layoffs and corporate greed I think this is likely what we're stuck with until 2K or something steps in with something better.. unfourtunate.

I heard no Xfactors.. instead we have "abilities"

I heard the game runs so smooth and less sucking into animations.. I saw several animations both from the wr/ secondary and lineplay that ran a built in sucked in animation.. I guess the game runs 30% faster.. a game in development this long and it seems like almost all of that time was taken to make a good atmosphere. Unfortunately I play football games.. to play football, and this misses the mark.

Idk if they have a free demo or w/e I'll try and maybe it will "feel" different. Madden is just such a BAD product.. I hear good things about one every 3-5 years and buy it, play for a night and never pick it up again.. just feels so clunky and too animation heavy. Not sure if it's a lack of animations so you feel sucked into them or what.. maybe this game does a better job with that.. or the 30% speed boost gives the illusion that it's not happening so much?

Again.. pre Game stuff, songs, pageantry, uniforms, stadiums, graphics.. things look great. It's like "she's a 10 but she isn't any fun to be around"

Maybe I'm wrong. Waiting to see raw gameplay..

  • Frame Rate | Refresh Rate

What will the frame rate be on PS5?

I bought Madden '22 I believe, and it was 120 FPS on Series S|X but only 60 FPS on PS5 the refresh rate was capped at 60Hz which was abnormally choppy after being used to a smoother experience.

Overall, since it doesn't seem that this game will be hitting PC, I want to either buy an Xbox for the 120Hz again OR grab it on the PS5 I currently own.

Most sports games are maxed at 4K 60hz on PlayStation 5. It seems that last years Madden 24 was the same exact way. However, according to the Xbox store, it seems that the Xbox Series X supports the 4K 120hz for the performance mode option. Of course, in order to get the best graphics out of your games, you will need to also have a good monitor as well.

  • Good evening:

I wish to tell you a story, that some of you may not believe. Imagine a player who has played against sighted players in the NCAA franchise, and not only one, but blew them out. Imagine this same player creating an incredibly powerful dynasty one that would have made Nick Saban jealous, 4 seasons and no losses, and all resulting in National Championships. This player  brought his Volunteers back to national power, and did this in NCAA football 2005, 06, 07, 08, 10, 13, and 14.  This player played against a sighted player in NCAA football 2010, and even though the sighted player had Alabama a more powerful team, this player took him through 4 overtimes, before the player finally lost.  Now stop, and think about what you just read and ask yourself, who is this player?

I am this player, and I am blind. I have enjoyed this series and its different variations since 2001. I love college football, and the passion   it can bring. I love the roar of the crowds, the chanting of team names, the marching bands, the rivalries, and all that goes into it. But as stated earlier, I am blind. I do have some concerns about the gameplay of the latest college football game on tap for release in July.

    1. What is known about the ability to navigate the menus in all the modes? The way I played dynasty mode was memorizing where my games were and playing them. But if I am going to have the full experience, I need to be able to recruit, to watch injuries, to substitute players, to call plays, etc. How will I as a blind person learn the playbook, challenge my friends online, and all these things that sighted players can do? Blind players use software called screen readers or menu Narration in games. Madden has excellent Menu narration.
    2.  How do I get my kicks? In Madden, Controller vibrations allow me to know where my kicking power, and accuracy are so that I can kick extra points, field goals, and punts. Also, when directing your kick in a particular direction, the Controler will vibrate to let me know if I am too close to the sidelines, or will not vibrate when I am aimed at the goalposts.  The kicking system is different here, and I wish to know if this will be possible, or if the controller vibrations can be added in a later patch of the game. If we cannot kick, then we cannot do any of the above things mentioned.
    3.  Passing: I understand that there is a metered passing mechanic in place now. Again, how will we as totally blind players know how to navigate this challenge?

I just want to say that as a long time EA sports supporter, and as someone who has supported the NCAA and Madden franchises, I would love to see accessibility brought into the game. I am looking forward to leading my Volunteers to another title. Please reach out of anyone has any questions, and I will be happy to discuss.

  • Probably not. What I am hoping for is some of those awesome video tutorials like on the old games. That's how I learned to play them.

  • I do not understand how you don’t not have Neyland stadium as the either 1st or 2nd hardest stadium to play in Neyland and the Vols hold the record for loudest stadium lsu is a close 2nd they swap back and forth a lot 102 thousand used to be 108 thousand! Just ask anyone from any sec team that’s played there they will tell you, Brock bowers just said other day no other stadium compared but EA and NCAA and ESPN have  always hated on the Vols it’s not even a secret they have straight up said it! No 1 in basketball now we win baseball World Series and talent on our upcoming team has never been this good ever not even when they won it in 98! Yall need to get facts right gonna tell any sec team that stadium hold noise record that a pac 10 or big 12 is tougher it’s laughable matter of fact it’s trending on sec Facebook group! Yall need to get it right had how many years to do it oh that’s right yall and madden was awful people like to play qb running back or wr they throw too not just 1 player!

  • They don’t even have the loudest stadium in all of college football in top ten on there when it’s well known as one of the hardest if not the hardest to play at as visiting team at Neyland stadium miss state harder lol no way

  • They doing same thing with vols nico our qb dominated the best defense in bowl game this past seen put a clinic on vs Iowa
