What is it going to take to get Tennessee to not be the second lowest rated defense in the SEC in this game?

    Tennessee's defense:

    • allows 178 passing yards per game (#16 nationally, #2 in the SEC)
    • allows 99 rushing yards per game (#9 nationally, #2 in the SEC)
    • allows 13.92 points per game (#4 nationally, #3 in the SEC)
    • is #10 in defensive passing efficiency (#2 in the SEC)
    • is #6 nationally in tackles for loss (#2 in the SEC)
    • is #4 in yards allowed per play (#2 in the SEC)
    • is #4 in offensive touchdowns allowed (#2 in the SEC)
    • #11 in redzone defense % nationally (#4 in the SEC)
    • #6 nationally in 3rd down % defense (#2 in the SEC)
    • #5 nationally in ypg (#2 in the SEC)

    Individually:

    • Joshua Josephs (#19) is 21st nationally in forced fumbles (#4 in the SEC)
    • Jermod McCoy is tied for #7 nationally in interceptions per game (#3 in the SEC)
    • James Pearce is #16 in sacks (#6 in the SEC)

They have given up more than 20 points in just two games this year: Georgia and Vandy, and one of Vandy's touchdowns was a busted kickoff return. I don't know what the methodology for ratings you are using is, but if you are only looking at individual statistics (which can be skewed when teams rotate heavily like we do or by the play style of opposing offenses) or PFF ratings (which are highly subjective) than you are missing a big piece of data. It was nice to see Will Brooks get a big ratings boost, but incredibly frustrating that we haven't seen an across the board adjustment for one of the best defenses in college football. Please fix this. Look at the team tackle for a loss numbers. Look at the team passing efficiency. Tennessee's corners, defensive lineman and edge rushers are way better than what is currently portrayed in the game. How many other defenses have gotten 3 safeties this year? Tennessee has 26 players with one or more tackle for a loss and 12 players with one or more sacks.

I wonder how the Tennessee players who signed licensing deals must be feeling? Wonder how the athletics department must be feeling about this. Maybe Tennessee should just pull its licensing agreement and yall can have the Johnson City Cavaliers or something in the game next year. You do realize that Tennessee has one of the largest fanbases in college athletics, right?

  • They don't care. Denzel Ward of the Browns should have been an xfactor a long time ago. I'm still waiting.
