Which DT is the Nose?

It seems like usually the 2nd DT on my depth chart lines up at nose, but then there are times in the same formation when they switch and my DT1 is suddenly the nose tackle and my DT2 is playing 3 technique. Why is there not consistency? This matters.

Only three-man fronts have a prototypical nose guard/tackle. Thus, if you're deadest on having a NG/NT, your best bet is switching to a 3-4 base defensive playbook because, despite your feelings on the subject, the DT assigned as NG/NT in a 4-3 base doesn't matter very much.

@coastereight Honestly, in EA games it doesn't and never really has. If it did over and under formations would actually line up accordingly and the game would have strong and weakside players. Just put your best guys in and go from there
