Match defense should be ratings (Not A.I./coding) driven
Here me out on this one...
The great players will tell you that it requires hours of film study to be able to understand route concepts and how to play them in relationship to your responsibility. Knowing where your "help" is and playing to that leverage.
Truth is, not everyone is great at playing match.
So instead of coding the games (College and Madden) so that everyone behaves like psychics...always in perfect position, their effectiveness should be measured by their ZONE coverage rating. (I say zone cause conversely, not everyone is great at playing Man Coverage either. Only the best of the best excel at both)
And just as important, outside corners need to be better whenever they match their receiver. We shouldn't need to "route commit" a corner when they have an elite rating. It's why their elite.
Bottom line, if your zone coverage rating is low, you should be a step or two slower playing match. If that reting is high, then by all means...be in the right place more often then not.
