10-Man Formation Glitch and Subsequent Crashing

Exactly as it sounds. I’ve been using the Rice Playbook in Dynasty mode, both as an offensive coordinator and as a head coach using first Rice and then BYU. In the Rice Playbook, when using the Pistol formation “Flexbone Trips”, the halfback may not appear in the backfield, instead popping into the wingback position where a tight end would normally be in other formations. This itself is not the issue, as that is where a wingback is supposed to be. However, there should be a running back in the backfield in line behind the quarterback as well. This results in a 10 man formation (3 Wide Receivers + 5 Offensive Linemen + 1 Wingback + 1 Quarterback = 10). This glitch most frequently pops up when running either Triple Option or Smash out of this formation. Upon snapping the ball with this 10-man formation, after about 1 second, the game crashes and closes out. I’m playing on PlayStation 5 on the digital copy of the standard edition. I would say this glitch happens frequently but not 100% of the time. Occasionally a running back will pop up for a legal 11 man formation, or the 10 man formation won’t cause the game to crash, but it is an issue that most recently has forced me out of the same game 5 separate times. I have seen it occur varying between this high frequency or played an entire season without it happening. I suspect but cannot confirm that it has something to do with wear and tear forcing whatever player is in the wingback slot to sub out of the game, moving the player usually in the halfback position to the wingback position and then not putting in that player’s backup at the halfback position because that player is unaffected by wear and tear. This is merely speculation, but it seems a reasonable explanation for what is going on. Attached is a screenshot of what the 10 man formation looks like (the tenth is a wide receiver just out of view, out wide on the left hand side of the formation).

Weirdly enough, upon entering a game, the formation “Flexbone Trips” is actually named “Wingback Trips”. In fact, looking at Rice’s playbook under the Custom Playbook menu shows all pistol formations that in game are marked as “Wingback” formations are instead marked as “Flexbone” formations. I tried to replicate this glitch immediately upon entering a game with a new team, however all 11 players appeared on the field when doing so, leading me to believe that this is in fact tied to wear and tear in some capacity. I would appreciate a remedy to this glitch as attempting to use this formation can potentially result in a loss of progress and make the game unplayable.

This exact thing is happening to me but I’m using the Houston playbook. I started playing July 10th and finished 2 seasons on my Houston dynasty by July 18th with 0 crashes or missing players on any play/formation. On July 19th I started my 3rd season but this time I wanted to play certain teams that season so during the part where you can custom the conferences, I clicked on the option where you can add either 1 or 2 protected opponents and I added two teams. The very first game of the season, the game crashes on me 5 times in a row. I turned my PS5 off and didn’t play until the next day. The next day I was able to finish the game but I noticed that certain plays on both offense and defense were missing 1 player. Every time I would choose those certain plays with a missing player, the game would crash on the very next play or sometimes right at the snap.  So I stopped running those plays even though sometimes all the players would pop up.

i know you’re thinking it’s the wear and tear but it can’t be because I turned that off at the start of my first dynasty and the fact that it’s the exact same plays/formations makes me think it’s something else. The only thing that ever changed from my first 2 dynasties and my 3rd one was that i added the 2 protected opponents. Not sure if by doing that I messed something up on the backend. It’s either that or the most recent update made it to where my game would crash on certain plays that have missing players. So far I’m through my 10th game in this 3rd dynasty and the only way I got past it was by super simming the defensive plays on a few games I knew my team would dominate and then playing the whole games on the games I really wanted to play and on top of that, not picking those formations/plays that have the missing player. So far no crashes so my guess is, for now, make a note of the formations/plays that are missing a player and don’t run those again until they fix that glitch. I know it sucks bc there’s some plays I run all the time that I can’t use anymore but I rather use new plays and finish my games than let it crash in the 4th and waste my time.

  • This is happening to me as well. 10 men in the formation and it crashes at the snap. I think this is related to glitch with formation subs and the depth chart cancelling each other out.
