How do I use the College Kickoff Upgrade Tokens?

I’m sure I’ve had the same issue of not receiving tokens, but how do I apply them to Boettcher? I have been trying to figure it out for half an hour now and I still have 0 clue. When I go to Boettcher’s Upgrades tab, I still have to pay training to upgrade him and when I click on the tokens, there’s no option to apply them.
