Buying the game
TL;DR: I wasn’t buying the game until micro-transactions were removed. Now I’m buying it. When they reintroduce them for 28, they need to make it like NCAA 14.
Let me start by saying I logged over a month’s worth of hours into both CFB 25 and 26. I still was not going to purchase CFB 27 until today.
It’s not the existence of micro-transactions that bothers me, but the way they were hidden even from the creators who promote the game and play it for the community’s entertainment for a living, as well as the removal of XP sliders as an “encouragement” to purchase the new paid accelerators. I simply could not support that. I’m glad EA made the right call and I’m excited to play the game now.
With all that being said, I know micro-transactions will be coming to Dynasty and RTG in CFB 28 and I’d like to offer my input on how to implement them. Essentially, go pop in an old copy of NCAA 14 and do that again. The “time-savers” in that game were reasonably priced, reusable across multiple save files, available in both offline and online modes, and did not impact the rest of the game’s functionality. If that had been introduced this year with full transparency, the backlash would’ve been minimal. But the combination of near-criminal pricing, hiding what was being done until the last possible moment, and removing features from the game to encourage spending got us where we are today.
Thank you for doing what was right in the end. Please don’t make the same mistake next year.
