Forum Discussion
Hey everyone,
We appreciate the heads up about this.
We're hoping you can share more details with us to help us look into what might be happening here. When you have the chance, please reply to this thread with as much of the following info as possible:
- Which platform are you playing on? (Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC)
- What is your Xbox Gamertag, PSN ID, EA Account ID, Steam ID, or Epic ID?
- Which version and model of console are you using, i.e. PS5 Digital, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X or S, etc.?
- Is your console set up vertically or horizontally?
- Is your console in an open space or an enclosed space?
- Do you get any notifications regarding overheating or performance warnings?
- Does this only happen when you're playing Dynasty, or do you see it in other game modes?
- Does it happen at the menu, or does it happen in the middle of a game?
- What was the last thing you remember doing in-game before this started happening?
- Can you share any videos of the issue as it happens?
- If you're on PC, attaching a DxDiag to your reply would be helpful. You can find more info on how to gather the DxDiag file at the link below.
Any details you can share will be helpful. Thank you!

Platform: Xbox series X
set up: vertically
open space
i have not tried out RTG and I do not play ultimate team, but this issue does not occur in any actual gameplay modes. It only happens when attempting to sim to the post season and triggering the heisman animation. Others have said it happens in RTG as well, but I cannot verify this personally as I have only played dynasty up until this point
it happens on the main page of dynasty mode, specifically when trying to advance week into the post season
for me personally, I have been able to get the animation to load properly, but the console has to be shut off for several minutes prior and power cycled every single time I attempt to advance; in addition to having a box-fan pointed directly at the system. It also has to be done immediately upon starting up the console, because if the console has been running for even 10 minutes before attempting the advance, it overheats.
so essentially, for me the process looks like this:
- progress in dynasty mode until the console shuts off when attempting to sim to the post season
- the console shuts off
- leave the console off and unplug it, leaving it unplugged for 30 minutes or more
- Turn on box-fan
- plug console back in and turn back on
- immediately open game as soon as able
- hit “continue dynasty”
and then after that there’s about a 50% chance of it working and loading into the heisman animation.
once that animation is loaded, I can play and advance to my heart’s content without issue until I reach the same point in the next season.
additional information that may or may not be helpful:
I have tried with the game installed on both internal storage and on an official Xbox storage expansion card. Does not seem to make a difference either way
I have tried playing with the aforementioned box fan running for an entire season, but it still overheats (so the fan trick only works when booting the game immediately after the cooldown and restart)
I cleaned every speck of dust out of the inside of my console and off of the table it sits on. This has not seemed to make a difference
this has literally never happened to me with any other game, even with more graphically intense games like Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil 9, or Dragon Age the Veilguard. Meaning it shouldn’t be an issue with my system.
edit to add:
I should also note that I never had this problem with CFB 25 or 26, or any previous madden installment. This appears to be a CFB 27-specific issue for me.

- Which platform are you playing on? Series X
- Is your console set up vertically or horizontally? Vertically
- Is your console in an open space or an enclosed space? Open
- Does this only happen when you're playing Dynasty, or do you see it in other game modes? Only in Dynasty
- Does it happen at the menu, or does it happen in the middle of a game? Every time the game goes to open the Heisman ceremony the screen goes black and it crashes. It happens EVERY time at the same point when I simulate to that week in the season.
- What was the last thing you remember doing in-game before this started happening? Just hitting advance to that week in the season.
I have not had a single season yet where this hasn't happened. Every season, same spot every time.I have already disabled screenshots and screen recording, turned off Dolby Vision, taken the console all the way apart and cleaned every speck of dust I can find.
This is the only game that has ever done this to me. Even more graphically intensive games don’t do this. I’d really like to be able to advance to the playoffs without having to do a 20-step ritual every time.

Xbox Series X
Vertical set up
open space over 4 inches cleaned on all sides and nothing above it
I haven’t played RTG but happens in every dynasty online save.
in Dynasty at the menu when you advance week att the Heisman ceremony
Choosing advance week
essentially same thing others seem to experience, when advancing week before the cutscene to the Heisman I hear my fan get super loud for a second and than the system shuts down. I restart and I get the overheating message from Xbox, doesn’t happen at any other point during the gameplay and my Xbox has very limited dust in the fan or ventilation system, I clean it regularly. The only short term fix I have found is to clear the game’s cache, power down, pull the plug, wait about 5 mins and try restarting and advancing the week.

Any update on this?

I have similar issues. Game crashes and shuts off my Xbox series x during gameplay during dynasty, usually in the first or second quarter. Happened in at least 10-15 games.
I haven't tested other game modes.
It usually seems to just being during a play, or immediately after a play.
Console is open spaces, vertical.

Update: I tried out RTG for the first time and experienced the same issue. When attempting to advance to the playoffs, the console overheats when trying to load the heisman animation.

Any update on this? I didn’t see any mention of this on the upcoming 7/16 patch notes.

You won’t because they don’t want to admit they haven’t fixed a broken game in over 2 weeks

It’s literally insane if it wasn’t fixed today lol I just turned it on this morning and they took the time to add a new intro video…. Like who cares about that lol we just want a working game that won’t potentially fry our system.
I’ll find out tonight when I get time to get through my next season but I anticipate cursing EA out later this evening.

EA_Kent can we get any update on if this is being worked on or not? I’d really like to hear able to play the game I paid $150 for without it destroying my console. Unforeseen bugs are one thing, but complete radio silence while so many of us are dealing with this issue is a little ridiculous.

This is happening EVERY time I progress to the Heisman ceremony in either RTG or dynasty. The reason I know it's the heisman ceremony is that when it does go through that's exactly what first shows up when it allows me to continue without it crashing.
The "crashing" it's my XSX immediately shutting down. Upon turning it back on I get the "overheated" message from my Xbox. Please note that my Xbox did not overheat. It crashes in a loading screen. The fan isn't even high at all.
So far I've been able to get It to go through after a few attempts, but I'm currently stuck on season 2 of Dynasty and am unable to progress. My reund was not accepted, but this game in unplayable in its current state on XSX.
