PC/Steam — CFB 27 crashes at splash screen with 0xC0000005

CFB 27 suddenly stopped launching on my PC. It worked normally since launch, but after not playing for a few days, it now gets through EA/Javelin AntiCheat and reaches the CFB 27 splash screen. It stays there for several minutes and then closes.

Windows Event Viewer reports:

Faulting application: CollegeFB27.exe

Exception code: 0xC0000005

Fault offset: 0x115D3F2

My PC:

RTX 2070 SUPER

i7-9700K

16 GB RAM

Windows 11 Pro 25H2

Steam

Madden 27 launches perfectly on the same PC.

Has anyone experienced this exact crash at the splash screen, and has anyone found a fix?

  • Finally someone with the same problem as me-i've been having the same difficulty for the last 3-4 days with the same exact error code.  Sad to see no fix from EA or troubleshooting from dev yet.  Only way i got the game to work was to make a new user profile on my pc and boot up steam and launch the game.  For whatever reason, the game was able to be launched from steam normally, and I still can get access to my old save data and progress.  From what i can gather, it's an issue with the main profile's app data or possibly registry keys.  No clue why the newest update would affect this but i'm not computer savvy enough to know if this is true.

Hope this quick fix helps and you can boot the game, i'm watching this post so hopefully someone from EA has a better fix than this.

MoistDoinks I tested the making another user profile on my PC, which ended up working. It allows me to boot the game now instead of crashing. I appreciate the quick fix. Hopefully someone from EA can find a better fix so we don't have to switch users to be able to play the game.

I'm not crazy computer savvy either, so I used to ChatGPT to assist me in figuring out what is going on.  The attached photo is what happened after hours of tedious testing. Hopefully there is a fix to this!

  • Glad it worked!  There's another thread on this forum dealing with a 0x0000005 errors as well.  It's gotta be something on javelin's end after an update but im no pc expert.  I ended up doing something similar with co-pilot and narrowed it down to something similar but in the end it told me to post on the forums here.  Fix i found was from a reddit response to a post i made about a similar issue.  Let me know if you find a better fix than a new user profile!
