CCG Windows 8 - Can't Run CD Versions of Game

Question

Hello All -&nbsp;I purchased Command and Conquer Generals along with Zero Hour a long time ago. &nbsp;So I have the CD versions of both and not the digital download. &nbsp;I am trying to run them on Windows 8, but continue to get Access Denied "Please logo on with administrator privileges and try again."I've tried the following options:1. &nbsp;I checked the box to be "Run as administrator" under both the Icon and Program properties for each file.2. &nbsp;In Origin, added the program to my list of games, selected Game Properties, &nbsp;set the&nbsp;Command Line Arguments to be '-w' and checked "Disable Origin in Game for this game".3. &nbsp;I created option.ini in the appropriate data folder under Documents and copy/pasted the values from the following forumhttp://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/114155-command-conquer-generals-launch-problem-solved.htmlNo luck. &nbsp;Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,Greg

@Inquisitor_Malic&nbsp;I believe this is related to the update that disables the Safedisc system. The problem isn't actually whether you run with administrator rights;&nbsp;the actual service&nbsp;it tries to access is blocked by the system, and because it gets blocked, the system reporting the error back to you assumes that you don't have enough rights to run it. In reality, you can never run it unless you specifically get around&nbsp;the thing that's blocking it.

On Windows 10 it's even worse; they removed the service&nbsp;altogether. As it is, on Win7 and Win8, you can still mess with the registry to make sure the service does get started. More information on that can be found around the web.&nbsp;This seems to cover it quite well:

Apparently, another way around it is to specifically find the update&nbsp;KB3086255 in your Windows update history and uninstall&nbsp;it.
