Custom Maps | C&C3: Kane's Wrath | Ultimate Collection | Origin | Windows 8.1

If you think you have the answer already, you are probably wrong.
I've tried all the common answers: Read on to know for sure your advice hasn't been tried already.

Here are the steps that I have already tried to get custom maps to work on the "Ultimate Collection" version of C&C3: Kane's Wrath on Origin. So far, I still do not see the custom map in Network play nor Skirmish mode.

  1. Downloaded map ("Uphill Struggle") from CNCLabs.com.
  2. Unzipped the map onto my Windows 8.1 (64-Bit) laptop.
    [
    Storage Config: OS is on the primary SSD [Drive "C:"]. Origin and it's game library on a separate HDD [Drive "D:"].]
    [
    More Specs:Core i7-3630QM | 12GB DDR3 RAM | GeForce GTX 670M w/ 3GB GDDR5]
  3. Placed unzipped folder ("Uphill Struggle" with two XML files inside: "map" and "overrides") into
    "C:\Users\{MY USER NAME}\AppData\Roaming\Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath\Maps\"
    (
    I also tried placing the still zipped map folder in there hoping maybe that would change my luck. It didn't help though.)
  4. {Restarted Origin and tested it, but no custom maps appeared in either Skirmishes or Network play.}
  5. Downloaded and Used CNCUltimateCollectionCustomMapRegistryFix.zip to automatically fix the common missing registry key(s).
  6. Manually reconfirmed within RegEdit that a "UseLocalUserMaps" key was indeed added with a REG_DWORD value of "0" to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath"
    (
    "Data" column shows "0x00000000 (0)" as the value, though)
  7. {Restarted Origin and tested it, but it didn't work.}
  8. Downloaded and Used Bibber's C&C Ultimate Collection Launchers (ver. 1.16)
  9. {Restarted Origin and tested it, but no custom maps appeared in either Skirmishes or Network play.}
  10. I then read in another forum post to remove the trailing backslash "\" at the end of the "InstallPath" in RegEdit,
    In desperation I did it. Restarted Origin, but the custom maps never showed up in either Skirmishes or Network play.

Update: Still trying other things to get it to work. Here are some more things that I've tried.

  1. Went to "D:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer 3 TW and KW\Command Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath" and
    Right-Clicked "cnc3ep1_origin.exe" > Clicked "Properties" >
    Clicked "Compatibilty" tab > Checked "Run this...for:" >
    Selected "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)", then
    Checked "Run...as an administrator" > Clicked "Apply" button > Clicked "OK" button
  2. The same as step 1, but for the "CNC3EP1.exe" in the same folder.
  3. {Restarted Origin and tested it, but no custom maps appeared in either Skirmishes or Network play.}
  4. The same as step 1, but for the "CNC3Launcher.exe" in the parent folder < D:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer 3 TW and KW >.

Other Notes: I haven't installed "Tiberium Wars" because "Kane's Wrath" was already better in my opinion.

Anything else I haven't tried yet? If this doesn't get fixed, this will be the reason I uninstall Origin.

     Did you try unzipping into a new folder inside your maps folder? I think each map needs its own folder in there:

    From http://www.cnclabs.com/cnc3/faq.aspx#InstallingCustomMaps:

    Custom maps can also be installed manually by placing them in the Command & Conquer 3 Maps folder. Files for each map reside in their own folders within this Maps folder. The location of the C&C 3 Maps folder depends on what version of Windows your have installed.

    Hi Nyerguds,
    Thanks for picking this issue up, I was afraid this side of the forum was going to be completely devoid of life and that my choice of purchasing a video game from Origin was all for naught... (Which -to be honest- at this point it still IS for naught until I can play a custom map.)

    Answer: Yes, I unzipped them into their own new folder (named "UphillStruggle") inside the Maps folder.

    What sucks about companies such as EA is the fact that they made tons of cash from Command & Conquer.  Obviously it's one of the most successful series of games out there.  I find myself questioning why they haven't cranked out a simple patch or fix for this problem regarding custom maps.  Could it be that they simply want us to move on and buy something else rather than play skirmish games with old maps and an old game?  I say bullocks to that.  I will not spend a penny on anything else from Origin or EA until they fix this problem.  You can speak with your pocketbooks by refusing to buy anything from Origin.  I have already paid for most of the Command & Conquer series twice;  I bought them once in the store when they came out, and a second time through Origin in the hope that they would work correctly on my high end PC.  What did I get for my hard earned money?  Disappointment and the reinforced belief that corporate America sucks.  Not another f'n penny until you fix this problem, Origin.  Prove once and for all you don't suck.  Make a fix for Win 10 users who enjoy these games and the bevy of custom maps created for them.

    I concur. Please come up with a fix EA..

  • I am in the exact same boat, but my buddy has all the maps.  His just works and mine does not, we have been working on this issue periodically for over a year.  I am about done with this *.

    u have to make a regedit for custum maps to work.

    paste this text in a text file and save it as " .reg "

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath]
    "Hash"=dword:7e4fc7ba
    "Version"=dword:00010000
    "Readme"="H:\\Program Files (x86)\\Command and Conquer 3 TW and KW\\Command Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath\\Support\\readme.txt"
    "InstallPath"="H:\\Program Files (x86)\\Command and Conquer 3 TW and KW\\Command Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath\\"
    "ProfileFolderName"="Profiles"
    "SaveFolderName"="SaveGames"
    "UserDataLeafName"="Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath"
    "ScreenshotsFolderName"="Screenshots"
    "ReplayFolderName"="Replays"
    "Language"="english"
    "Package"="{CC2422C9-F7B5-4175-B295-5EC2283AA674}"
    "MapPackVersion"=dword:00010000
    "UseLocalUserMaps"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath\ergc]
    @="XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"

    H:\Program Files (x86)\Command and Conquer 3 TW and KW\Command Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath

    instead of the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, u need to go to regedit in windows, search for 'ergc'. there u double click on DEFAULT and it will show u your serial key. copy/paste that serial key and paste it in the .reg file in place of the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    Also... u have to change the paths 'Readme'=

    And obviously also change the path 'InstallPath'=

    I understand this is complicated, but it does work 100% if done correctly.

    U basically tell the game where to find the custom maps, coz it doesn't know this originally.
