Hope this serves for someone:
The issue on my end was that, at first, Origin would keep installing the game endlessly. After a while I would lose patiency and kill the process, and then any attempt following that one would cause the DX error (that's how I got here).
Well, after thinking a bit instead of just googling (duh!) I found out: just open the Task Manager and kill the dx process there (probably DXSETUP.exe). This will unfreeze the installation.
