I am also getting the Direct x internal Error when trying to install Red alert 2.
Lenovo Laptop
Windows 8.1
OK I've found the Cure to this problem, I don't know about XP users, but this works for Win 7 and win 8.1
Go to your Origin games folder: normally found this way.
Program files (x86) / (x64) > Origin Games >Command and Conquer red Alert II > _Installer > DirectX > Redist
Once in there Delete everything except these 3 files
DSETUP.dll
dsetup32.dll
DXSETUP
The above 3 files should be the only files that remain in your Redist Folder.
Once that is done go back to Origin game Launcher and Try reinstalling the game, It should install with no hassle.
