How do I get command and conquer red alert 2 to work on windows 11

Hi! I recently got the urge to play one of my all time favorite RTS games red alert 2. Anyways despite compatibility mode and switching to 16 bit I still can't get it working. I can launch the game but that's it. It will load into the menu and I know this because I get sound but no video. The menu will load up and I can hear the mouse as it moves over menu options. It seems off to the right too far as well. I'm running windows 11, 64 bit

  • @wolfpaw21 This is a known issue. The graphics system patch DDWrapper solves this problem, though, if you don't want to bother messing with files in the game folder, just installing CnCNet on your game will also take care of that.

  • Are they safe to download though? I saw something on a previous thread claiming ddwrap had a trojan attached.

@wolfpaw21 CnCNet has been a staple of the C&C community for over a decade. It is a community dedicated to keeping the classic C&C games and their online play working. I've been involved with the people behind the project for almost two decades now.

Virus scanners nowadays are insanely paranoid about anything they don't know, which is extremely tedious for anyone making their own programs. This is especially problematic for projects like CnCNet that do fan-patching of existing games, since fan-patching is very easy to confuse with viruses; both modify existing programs, but while viruses do that for malicious purposes, fan-patches do it to fix errors and make the games run better.

But if you download the files from the official sites (bitpatch.com for ddwrapper, cncnet.org for the CnCNet installers), you should be perfectly safe.

Note that CnCNet links to downloads on cnc-comm.com; the C&C Communications Center, but this is the site that hosts CnCNet, and the community from which CnCNet originally grew. Some of the downloads they link to (like the full download for the patched C&C95; a project I did myself) are also hosted on ModDB.
